Hi @PeteA7953

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The EVENT CODE 71.02.41A on your HP OfficeJet 8028 typically points to an issue related to the printer’s internal hardware, possibly involving a hardware failure or a communication problem between the printer components. The error can sometimes arise from problems with the scanner or printhead components, or even from an issue with the firmware.

Since you’ve already done a full reset and are still encountering the same message, let’s try a few additional steps to resolve the issue.

Troubleshooting Steps for Error Code 71.02.41A:

1. Perform a Power Cycle

A power cycle can sometimes help to clear out any internal errors or communication problems.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait 1-2 minutes to allow any residual power to dissipate.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it back on.
  • Check if the error message still appears.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Blockages

  • Open the printer’s access door and check for any paper jams or debris inside the printer that could be interfering with its internal components.
  • Make sure there are no small pieces of paper or foreign objects in the path of the printhead or scanner.

3. Check the Printer's Printhead

  • Turn off the printer and open the printer's front door to access the printhead and ink cartridges.
  • Remove the ink cartridges and carefully check if the printhead is moving smoothly.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges and ensure that they are seated correctly in place.
  • Close the door and power the printer back on.

4. Update the Printer's Firmware

Sometimes the error could be a result of outdated firmware.

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet 8028 by visiting HP's Support Page.
  • Download and install any available firmware updates, as these may resolve any software-related issues that could be causing the event code.

5. Factory Reset (Hard Reset)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
