I lost my password for the EWS (Embedded Webserver), now it's useless! I can't update any settings
I need help to reset my credentials for my Smart Tank 450
I changed them from the factory credentials and thought they auto saved to my password manager, but they never did when I went back to check. Now I'm locked out forever!!! Please help!!
How can I reset the credentials back to factory settings, so I can fully use all the features of my printer?

Hi @Koscha,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Restore the network settings to default settings to reset the EWS page password:
Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button
from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.
Once it is done set a new password for EWS page, follow the below steps:
Open a web browser and type the printer IP address in the address field exactly as it appears on the Configuration Page, and then press Enter.
Click the Security tab, and under General Security, set the local administrator password.
Keep the username default as admin.
Type the New Password and Verify Password.
Navigate to the bottom of the page and click Apply.
Use these credentials the next time you Log In to the EWS.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

HI Elohi_NR,
My apologies for not responding for a few weeks.. I was not expecting to have a response. However you did. thank you.
I tried your solution several times to no avail of getting the option to change the password ..
Where you state that the process to change the EWS password after resetting the NETWORK SETTINsS by doing the Following…
Press the Wireless button
and the Cancel button
from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.
I did exactly that … You then requested that I open a new browser and enter the Ip address for the printer.. which was http://192.168.0.22
The browser stayed blank and got an error stating the address was not responding and timed. Obviously this is due to resetting the network as stated above.
I tried several times t access the address but it was not connecting, I then proceeded to reconnecting the printer through the WPS process so Iwas able to access the printer IP address again.
You did not mention in any of your solution what I actually experienced., which leads me to believe you may have provided me incomplete directions to reset the EWS for my model of printer ??
After re-connection to my router I proceeded to the printer IP again through my browser… Below are several screen shots of what I actually see my end.
I proceeded to to the section you mentioned to find the Security Tab …”Click the Security tab, and under General Security,” … this direction is not correct… There is no General Security link in this section., only the two link to
- Password Settings &
- Administrator Settings
So in seeing what was presented my end I assume you may have been referring to click on the
Administrator Settings. ?
As you can see once I click that link the “Sign in to access this site “ window pops up telling me “Authorization required by https://192.168.0.22
I actually entered http://192.168.0.22 but continue to be forced to view the page under https://
So I selected Do not show me this message again and clicked Cancel …
I was then presented with another screen saying that I must view the page securely and “Redirect to HTTPS”
So I have to accept it and get the same Login window wanting the user & pw credentials to view the page ….
It’s been months and months now and still no solution for this Smart Tank 450 allowing me access any option of Resetting the EWS password to factory settings…
Please look into my issue further and let me know if there are any further possible solutions that I may have for my model printer to be totally reset back to its original factory settings.
There has to be something to force this model printer to reset to factory settings ?
Cheers looking forward to your response and will be closely checking back daily!!
