HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw

We upgraded to fiber internet with eeros system. There is no WPS button on our new router, and the printer is not located close enough to the router/modem to be plugged in.

Of all the devices we have connected, this printer is the most challenging to get to connect to the new system. Is there a way to connect this printer to our network without ethernet or WPS?

Hi @ahornTN ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Yes, you can still connect your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw to your Eero WiFi network without WPS or Ethernet. Here's how to do it using the printer's control panel and the Eero app:

Method 1: Use the Printer's Control Panel (Wi-Fi Direct)

  1. Power on the Printer and make sure it’s ready.
  2. Access the Printer’s Wi-Fi Setup:
    • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button or navigate to the Wireless Settings menu.
    • Select Wireless Setup Wizard (this is common for most HP printers).
  3. Find Your Eero Network:
    • The printer will search for available networks and display them on the screen.
    • Select your Eero network from the list.
  4. Enter Your Wi-Fi Password:
    • When prompted, enter your Wi-Fi password for your Eero network using the control panel. Be careful to enter it correctly.

Method 2: Use HP Smart App (via Wi-Fi Direct)

  1. Download and Install the HP Smart App on your phone or computer (available on both iOS and Android).
  2. Add Printer to HP Smart App:
    • Open the app, and select Add Printer.
    • The app should automatically detect your printer if it's in Wi-Fi Direct mode. If not, go to the Wi-Fi Direct settings on your printer and enable it.
  3. Follow the On-Screen Instructions:
    • The app will guide you through connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network by selecting the Eero network and entering the password.

Method 3: Connect via the Printer's Web Interface

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page:
    • From the printer's control panel, print a Network Configuration page (usually found under the Reports or Network Setup menu).
    • This page will list the printer’s IP address.
  2. Access the Printer’s Web Interface:
    • On a computer or phone, open a web browser and type the printer’s IP address from the network configuration page.
  3. Log into the Web Interface:
    • The web interface will load. Log in (if prompted) and navigate to the Wireless Settings.
  4. Connect to Wi-Fi:
    • Enter your Eero network's SSID and password to connect.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
