I have a macbook air - Operating system Sonoma 14.7 and I am having connectivity problems with the HP9120e series and I am using the instant ink. Does that actually create a problem since I cannot print unless I turn off the printer and restart almost 2x a day. I also can no longer print from my phone or iPad even though I am on the same network.

Hi @DEWMorning ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing connectivity problems with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e and macOS Sonoma 14.7, combined with issues printing from your phone and iPad, could be caused by a variety of factors, including:
1. Potential Causes:
- Printer Connectivity with Instant Ink: Instant Ink itself does not directly interfere with printing, but if the printer struggles to maintain a reliable connection to the internet or the local network, this could indirectly affect Instant Ink functionality and printing.
- macOS Sonoma Compatibility: Sonoma 14.7 is a newer macOS version, and compatibility issues with the printer driver or HP Smart app may exist.
- Wi-Fi Signal Stability: Weak or inconsistent Wi-Fi signals can lead to devices on the same network being unable to locate the printer.
- Network Settings: Changes in your router or printer’s network settings could prevent communication between devices.
- Outdated Firmware or Drivers: The printer or the HP Smart app may need updates to align with macOS Sonoma.
2. Troubleshooting Steps:
On the Printer:
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. Use the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel to check for updates.
Reset Network Settings:
- On the printer, navigate to Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults. Then, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi.
On Your MacBook Air:
Remove and Reinstall the Printer:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and click Remove.
- Re-add the printer using Add Printer and ensure the correct driver is installed (not AirPrint unless necessary).
Update Drivers and HP Smart:
- Download and install the latest HP drivers for macOS from HP's official website.
- Update or reinstall the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
For Mobile Devices:
Verify AirPrint Functionality:
- Ensure your printer supports AirPrint and is enabled. Check the printer settings or the HP Smart app.
Reconnect Mobile Devices:
- On your iPhone/iPad, forget the Wi-Fi network, reconnect, and try to print again.
On Your Router:
Assign a Static IP:
- Access your router’s settings and assign a static IP to the printer. This can prevent the printer from losing its connection when your network resets.
Restart Network Devices:
- Reboot your router and modem to refresh the network. Ensure devices are connected to the same network band (2.4 GHz is often more stable for printers).
3. Additional Suggestions:
Test with a USB Cable (if possible):
- Temporarily connect the printer to your MacBook via USB to test if the issue is network-related.
HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download this tool for troubleshooting from HP’s support page (available for Windows only, but mobile apps have similar diagnostic tools).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
