I have a HP Envy Inspire 7900 series and when I try to print on MacOS, the printer immediately goes into pause mode. I've already tried everything

  • Factory-resetting the printer
  • Resetting the printer system on mac
  • Deleting and adding the printer on mac
  • Upgrade mac to the latest version
  • Latest firmware on the printer
  • Turning everything off and on again

On another mac, the printing works just fine. Also, on iphones and ipads the printing works.

The MacOS is Sonoma (14), the latest OS (which was not selectable in the list of operation systems.)

Hi @Icyjamie,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating when you've tried many troubleshooting steps and still can't get your printer to work properly on macOS. Since the printer works on another Mac, iPhones, and iPads, the issue likely stems from something specific to your macOS configuration. Here are some additional steps you can try.

  1. Check Printer Connection: Ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac. Verify that the connection is stable.

  2. Create a New User Profile: Sometimes, printing issues can be related to user-specific settings or preferences. Create a new user profile on your Mac and see if the printer works when printing from that profile.

  3. Driver and Software Reinstallation:

    • Uninstall the printer drivers and software from your Mac.
    • Download the latest printer drivers and software from the HP website specifically designed for your model.
    • Reinstall the drivers and software following the manufacturer's instructions.
  4. Reset Printing System:

    • Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners."
    • Control-click on the printer list and choose "Reset printing system."
    • Re-add your printer.
  5. Check Printer Queue:

    • Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners."
    • Select your printer, and check the printer queue. If there are any pending jobs, clear them.
    • Ensure that the printer is set as the default printer.
  6. CUPS Configuration:

    • Open your web browser and go to http://localhost:631
    • Navigate to the "Printers" tab.
    • Select your printer and check its settings. Make sure it's not set to "Pause."
  7. Firewall and Security Software:

    • Sometimes, security software or firewalls can block the communication with the printer. Ensure that there are no restrictions in your security software.
  8. Print as PDF: Try printing to PDF as a test. If this works, it could be an issue with the printer settings rather than your macOS.

  9. Temporary User Profile: Try creating a new temporary user profile on your Mac and see if the printer works there. If it does, the issue may be related to your user profile.

  10. macOS Updates: Even though you mentioned upgrading to the latest macOS, continue to keep your system updated, as Apple frequently releases updates that can resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
