HP OfficeJet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For about a week now my OfficeJet will drop the connection with the wifi. When I go into settings my wifi does not show up on the list. Only after shutting it down, turning off the router, and restoring the network settings does it find it. It will then successfully connect to it, but then it won't last. Today, it dropped the connection, reconnected all on its own, and then dropped it again right in front of me (all within less than a minute). It's done that at least twice while typing this description. I have restored the network settings, I have powered down everything and rebooted everything (computer, router, modem, printer). Firmware and drivers are all up-to-date. HP Print and Scan Doctor is ineffective when it's actually able to talk to the printer. Nothing seems to last. Any ideas as to what is going on and how to fix it?

No, none of the suggestions worked. I ended up connecting it via ethernet to my router and that seemed to fix it. It just can't connect wirelessly.

I am having the same problem with my 6978 and posted the issue back in June. I received no reply at that time. If there is a "secret" resolution to this problem, I'd appreciate it if you would send it to me. Thank you.

I should note that I am on a Mac running OS Catalina.

Did you ever get a resolution to the 6978 wifi problem? I don't see anyone responding.

Thanks for getting back to me. I think I'm going to take the same route, though with USB. You would think that HP would acknowledge the problem and come up with a fix. They're driving me back to Epson.

FYI, I tried USB and that didn't work for me. For some reason, it continued to drop the connection. Ethernet has been the only stable connection. Hopefully, USB will work for you. Yeah, I wish HP would acknowledge and look into this issue as well too.

Try this solution messaged to me by another person. It seems to have worked.

Press TL, BL, TL, TL to enter the Engineering Menu>Service Menu>Resets Menu>Semi-full Reset.

TL means the top left corner of the printer's screen. It is the home symbol.

BL means the bottom left corner of the printer's screen. It is the return arrow symbol.
