I've already tried unplugging my printer for 60+ seconds to reset it and router but it does not work. Every time the printer comes back on it immediately goes to the "Get HP Software" screen. I have no options to exit or leave that screen aside from the "?" button which does nothing helpful. The wifi light on the printer is off and does not blink. I've tried setting it up with HP Smart but it does not detect my printer. The printer was working fine before and it suddenly stopped being detectable.

Hi @Nabbski,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're facing with your HP OfficeJet 8015e being stuck on the "Get HP Software" screen is a setup glitch that can occur when the printer fails to complete its initial configuration or loses Wi-Fi connectivity during setup.

Here’s how you can fix it:

Step-by-Step Fix for “Get HP Software” Screen Freeze

1. Perform a Semi-Full Reset

This reset goes deeper than a power cycle:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall.
  • Wait 2 minutes.
  • Press and hold the Power button and Cancel button together.
  • While holding, plug the power cord back in.
  • Keep holding for 10–15 seconds until the printer powers on and shows a different screen.

If this doesn’t work, move to the next step.

2. Reconnect via HP Smart App (Android or iOS)

  • Download the app: 📲 HP Smart
  • Make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
  • Open the app and tap “+” to add a printer.
  • If your printer doesn’t show up, tap “Set up a new printer” and follow the prompts.

If the printer is stuck and not broadcasting Wi-Fi, try the next step.

3. Restore Network Settings

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  • This will reset the network settings and enable Wi-Fi setup mode (the Wi-Fi light should start blinking).
  • Now retry setup via HP Smart.

4. Update Firmware via USB (if setup fails)

If the printer is stuck and cannot connect to Wi-Fi:

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
