We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My printer shows that it's connected on the HPsmart app, but when trying to print using the HPsmart app states, that the printer is unavailable. I have tried turning it off, unplugging the printer from the wall, then replugging it back on and turning it on. It still doesn't work. I am using the same internet as the printer.

Hi @herman59

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I am sorry for the issue—and you’ve already tried some solid first steps. Since your HP OfficeJet Pro shows as connected but becomes “unavailable” when printing via the HP Smart app, let’s dig deeper with a few targeted fixes.

1. Run “Diagnose & Fix” in HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Tap your printer > Advanced Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • This tool checks for network conflicts, driver issues, and app glitches.

2. Assign a Static IP to Your Printer

Dynamic IPs can change and confuse the app.

  • On the printer’s control panel: Settings > Network Setup > Advanced Settings > IP Settings.
  • Set a Manual IP (e.g., 192.168.1.240) outside your router’s DHCP range.
  • Update the printer’s IP in the HP Smart app if needed.

3. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

Sometimes a fresh network handshake helps.

  • Go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi manually and re-add the printer in the HP Smart app.

4. Update Firmware and App

  • Visit the HP Software & Driver Downloads page to get the latest firmware for your model.
  • Make sure the HP Smart app is updated from the Microsoft Store or your mobile app store.

5. Check for Firewall or Antivirus Interference

  • Temporarily disable any third-party firewall or antivirus software.
  • Ensure your network allows printer discovery (especially on guest networks or mesh setups).

Let me know your printer’s exact model if you'd like help assigning a static IP or updating firmware. We’ll get this sorted so your prints stop playing hide-and-seek.
