Hi @Kathy7464
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9128e might be having connectivity issues, which can be frustrating.
Let’s troubleshoot and stabilize its connection:
1. Ensure a Stable Network Connection
Verify that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or mobile device.
Place your printer closer to the router to minimize interference, as physical obstructions or distance can weaken the signal.
2. Assign a Static IP Address
Dynamic IP addresses can sometimes cause printers to appear offline. Assign a static IP:
Access your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address (found on the printer's network settings) into a browser.
Go to the Network settings, then IP Address Configuration, and select Manual IP.
Input the current IP address and save it as static.
3. Update Printer Drivers
Visit HP’s Support Website Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support and download the latest drivers for your printer model and operating system.
Install updated drivers, which can often fix connectivity issues.
4. Disable Power-Saving Mode
If your printer is going into sleep mode and failing to reconnect, disable energy-saving settings:
Navigate to the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Preferences > Energy Saving Settings, and adjust the sleep mode timeout.
5. Disable "Use Printer Offline" Mode
On your computer:
On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and ensure “Use Printer Offline” is unchecked.
On macOS: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and ensure it’s set to “Idle” or “Online.”
6. Restart Print Spooler
If you're on Windows:
Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Locate Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.
Try printing again after restarting the service.
7. Firmware Update
Outdated firmware can cause frequent disconnections. Check for updates:
Go to your printer’s control panel or use the HP Smart app.
Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16
8. Reinstall the Printer
Remove the printer from your computer:
On Windows: Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Remove device.
On macOS: System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > “-” to remove the printer.
Re-add the printer and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
9. Network Configuration Test
Print a Network Configuration Report from the printer settings to check for any connectivity issues or conflicts.
If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
