Hi @Johnetta

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how worrying it feels to see a code like B8000788 on your printer’s screen and have the device stop functioning.

Thank you for already checking and sharing the details—it shows real attentiveness. That code indicates the printer has encountered a serious internal error, often linked to firmware or hardware initialization.

Let’s go through a few steps that can help bring your HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 series back to working order:

Power reset

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear.
  • Unplug from the wall outlet and wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors) and reconnect to the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error clears.

Remove cartridges and restart

  • Open the cartridge access door and carefully remove all cartridges.
  • Restart the printer without cartridges installed.
  • If the printer passes the startup screen, reinsert cartridges one by one to confirm recognition.

Disconnect accessories

  • Remove any USB cables, memory cards, or other devices connected to the printer.
  • Restart with only the power cord attached.

Update firmware via computer

  • Connect the printer to your Windows computer using a USB cable.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update utility for your model from HP’s support page:
Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
  • Run the utility to push the firmware update directly to the printer.

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows computer.
  • Select your printer → Printer SettingsDiagnose & Fix.
  • This tool checks for startup and communication errors and applies automatic corrections.

If the printer still shows the same code after these steps, it points to a deeper hardware fault. You’ve already shown great patience in troubleshooting, and following this sequence will confirm whether the issue is recoverable through reset and firmware or requires service.
