HI @BarbBlaszak,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue of your printer not receiving commands from your Apple devices:
Check Network Connection
Ensure Same Network:
- Make sure your printer and all Apple devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, router, and Apple devices (MacBook, iPad, and iPhone).
Verify Printer Settings
- Check Printer Network Settings:
- On your printer’s control panel, check the network settings to ensure it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- Print Network Configuration Page:
- Print a network configuration page from your printer to verify its IP address and network status.
Update Printer Firmware and Software
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for any available firmware updates for your printer. You can usually find this option in the printer’s control panel menu or by visiting the HP support website.
Update HP Smart App:
- Ensure that the HP Smart app on your Apple devices is up to date.
Remove and Re-add Printer
Remove Printer from Apple Devices:
- On your MacBook: Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners. Select your printer and click the - button to remove it.
- On your iPad and iPhone: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and forget the printer’s network.
Re-add Printer:
- On your MacBook: Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners. Click the + button to add the printer again.
- On your iPad and iPhone: Open the HP Smart app and follow the instructions to re-add the printer.
AirPrint Troubleshooting
Verify AirPrint is Enabled:
- Ensure that AirPrint is enabled on your printer. This setting is usually found in the printer’s control panel under network settings.
Check Bonjour Service:
- Ensure that the Bonjour service (mDNS) is enabled on your router. This service helps Apple devices discover the printer.
Reset Printing System (MacBook)
Reset Printing System:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
- This will remove all printers and reset the printing system.
Re-add Printer:
- After resetting, re-add your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
