Hi @wjrapaport,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw related to expired encryption credentials and update the EWS (Embedded Web Server), follow these steps:
Step 1: Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Find the Printer's IP Address:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Reports > Network Configuration.
- Print the Network Configuration Report and locate the printer's IP address.
Open EWS in Your Browser:
- On a computer connected to the same network as the printer, open a web browser.
- Enter the printer's IP address into the address bar and press Enter.
Step 2: Update Encryption Credentials
Log into EWS:
- If prompted, enter the administrator username and password for the printer. If you haven't set a password, leave the fields blank or check your printer manual for default credentials.
Navigate to Security Settings:
- In the EWS, go to the Security or Network tab (depending on your printer's firmware).
Update Encryption Settings:
- Look for options such as SSL/TLS Certificate or Encryption Credentials.
- Choose to either update or generate a new certificate:
- Self-Signed Certificate: You can generate a self-signed certificate directly on the printer.
Save Changes:
- Apply the updated settings and restart the printer if required.
Step 3: Check macOS Connectivity
Ensure Printer is Added Correctly:
- On macOS, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Ensure the printer is listed and selected as the default. If not, click +, select the printer, and add it.
Test Printer Functionality:
- Try printing or scanning a test page to verify the connection.
Step 4: Use a Browser-Based Alternative to HP Smart App
If you cannot use the HP Smart app, manage the printer directly via the EWS for features like scanning, firmware updates, or network management.
Refer to this document: Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
