Hello,
(long- winded, may as well skip first part)
Looking for help in resetting my printer in my new office ("new PC" set up) trying to scan important document (have used other small just a printer alone), got this printer to do what it's meant to (mainly to scan super important documents).
LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP M475dw about 5-6 years old, last used before lockdown in 2020 and divorce.
Password is missing and ex secretary (ex-wife) is no longer available for IT support or set up, considering how much I paid for it, my eyes are runny to throw it away now...
Boxes, CD's have been binned, installing new software (USB connected)- device is sort off recognised, but in printers and devices isn't) and anything I try to do for connecting to Wi-Fi or phone- it needs a password.
I remember there was some sort of default password (I think account: admin ; password: password ), that has been changed (no a clue what in to) and there was some sort sort of sequel to re-set it in to default , but so far I can't get nothing to work properly or to reset.
Also software support pages most off are 404'ed now
I believe it is the best to have it all explained in pictures
Would love if anyone could help me out with it.
Thank you!

At last full reset, thank you!...
I used RHS bottom corner and it did reset something, but not everything as per instructed here:
(in hindsight I should have bought new printer and or new wife, as so far whole day wasted, I'm not getting anywhere far with it 😞 )
ANW, kept on playing with the router- just can not set it up for wireless connection using an app, got connected to PC via USB (whilst PC can be USB or wirelessly connected to) , but the point of it working as a [wireless printer] bugging me, so...
Enabled tethering on my new (Android) phone and after a while learned:
why I couldn't connect to a router, as it uses WPA2 (2.4 Ghz) setting at a lowest security level there is no lesser or [no security] option, so I've turned to the phone to tether WITHOUT security and managed to get printer networked on an old (Android phone) phone like so:
New Android phone tethering, without security, printer is stil connected to PC via USB, but both PC and old (android) phone connected to.
(again- no security via phone tethering). obviously having a phone (or router) without any password or security isn't clever, so I turned min level on, gone in to printers wireless settings and even I enter the same password as on a new phone tethering, printer popped up with
....Leaving with no other option, but to [continue anyway]
the old old iPhone, the one that died in ~2020, I was able to connect not just for the print, but to scan, without being connected to my home wi-fi (I think), just using mobile data, whilst new/old Android phone only connects, when I was on a unsecure tethering network????
Clearly I'm doing something awfully wrong in set up, am I?
Whilst I have a router for home wi-fi network, I'm at a loss how to have it connected wirelessly so it would work, not just for me (only on my PC- USB), but when I need to have my accountant to print something or even, when I'm not home.... basically need to make printer to connect to a secure network wirelessly .
Hope I'm making sense?
Thank you!

Now a bit further about a USB- PC connected printer
Seems as if it will work (and does print), it offers me management via app...
That thinks, the printer is offline.
Simple spreadsheet out of LibraOffice prints out no problem.
😶 🙄 😥 😐

Well, as it's "nothing to lose" on a new/old android phone reinstalled 123.hp.com app
got to install another plug in. Set up unsecured network on a "new-new" android phone, so the printer is set-up wirelessly, as well as USB connected to PC.
not able to install or network up them two properly, but I managed to print a page , as neither [LaserJet Pro 400] , nor [MFP M475dw] is listed as supported printer

Couple more errors
indicated need to update firmware, which I did
and I printed [Configuration Report].
Will have to disable Fax obviously again, but how to get it network linked (ideally over wif-fi, so far I've not found how
Count on you guys, to guide me through what am I doing wrong or if the printer has developed some sort of a problem, during these 2-3 years in a garage

I'm lost. That printer model is too old to support the HP Smart app and mobile printing, use the old way to install it on your computer. To connect to wireless you have a Wireless setup wizard in the printers menu. Use the wizard to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.

Thanks!
I did try installing just drivers, tried to configure it manually-not great, some things work, no app for scanning or management- meh!, tried installing with everything they have (massive bloatware)
as I mentioned- I can only connect if I set up non WEP protected networked printer, not as in internet, but as Wi-Fi printer. Wouldn't be fair to say it doesn't work, nor I could say works properly.
Come to think about the age... , perhaps I've lied little in the first post, it seems I bought it 2013 not 2016 as I though, considering inflation crazy money paid for and few times bought crazy expensive toners since... ANW, what buggers me, is that I'm absolutely sure, it was set-up to work as an internet network printer-scanner at the office and it was even connected to my iPhone 8, so surely I should be possible to set it up with an Android phone? surely...?
The downside on my current Huawei router there's no wired (RJ45) network connection, just wireless (min WEP2, WEP4+ password protected) protocols and USB, that if plugged in to a printer (USB-A to USB-B) doesn't recognise it as network capable device and vice-versa... hence me mucking about using "spare" phone and tethering as network, that kinda works, as wi-fi device, but not as a full HTTP (or internet networked) printer...
If I have Printer (USB-B) to a PC (USB-A) which is connected "networked" to a router (USB-A), so in theory it should've worked, if it would've understood being network too (?)
The genuine software (linked above) is unbelievable bloatware, several components are in x64 format, as my home PC is W10 x64 now, but 2/3'ds (roughly) are in x32 (x86) bit architecture- perhaps would explain some of it, but not the fact, that even using touch-screen it doesn't process passwords to connect to internet. Unbelievable really, fully installed it's taken almost 3GB of space, more than some of my games, yet doesn't work as it should. :sad-face:
Lastly, I think updating firmware might have had some misconfiguration embedded in, but I just can not find my older firmware installation package nowhere, nor I could be sure it would let me to "downgrade" .
And (just to be clear) as it comes to connecting printer to network wirelessly it only works non WEP -password protected environment, as from the start (even before updated FirmWare)... and before clearing the password, thanks again for showing me correct procedure

was meant to post
kinda works, but NOT regardless as how set up- as a wireless printer, simply just can't get it's tiny old head around WEP security it seems
