Recently we changed from Cox to ATT Fiber.  Everything connected fine, but my printer is not printing correctly.  It seems to start the printing before the paper is there and so everything is to one side with a big margin at the bottom of the page.  Someone said turning off the 5ghz speed would fix it.  It did not unless I need to restart everything.  I need to get this fixed because we use our printer all the time.

Hi @MomofNine,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is not printing correctly after changing your internet provider to AT&T Fiber, it could be due to network settings or configuration issues related to the new router. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Network Configuration

  • Reconnect the Printer to the Network: Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, reconnecting can resolve issues.
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to the Wireless Setup Wizard and reconnect to your AT&T Fiber network.

2. Check Printer Settings

  • Printer Alignment: Perform a print head alignment to ensure the print heads are correctly aligned.
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the maintenance settings and select the option to align the print heads.
  • Paper Settings: Verify that the paper size and type settings on the printer match the paper loaded in the tray.
    • Check the printer settings through the control panel or the HP Smart app.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer firmware is up to date, as firmware updates can fix bugs and improve compatibility with new network settings.
    • Download the latest firmware from the HP support website and follow the instructions to update your printer.

4. Disable 5GHz Band (if necessary)

  • Network Bands: Some printers perform better on the 2.4GHz band. Make sure your printer is connected to the 2.4GHz band of your router.
    • Access your router’s settings via a web browser (typically 192.168.1.1 or similar).
    • Log in with your credentials and go to the wireless settings section.
    • Ensure the 2.4GHz band is enabled and connect your printer to this band.

5. Restart Network Devices

  • Restart Printer and Router: Restarting both the printer and the router can sometimes resolve network communication issues.
    • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait a minute.
    • Restart your router by unplugging it, waiting a minute, and plugging it back in.
    • Turn the printer back on and wait for it to reconnect to the network.

6. Printer Drivers and Software

  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: Sometimes, reinstalling the printer drivers can resolve printing issues.
    • Go to the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600, and reinstall them on your computer.

7. HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Run Diagnostic Tool: HP provides a free diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can help troubleshoot and fix common printing and scanning problems.
    • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support website.

8. Factory Reset the Printer

  • Factory Reset: If all else fails, you may need to reset the printer to factory settings and then set it up again from scratch.
    • Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on performing a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
