Hi @Striegmn ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31 is having trouble connecting to your new AT&T Internet Air network. Here's a troubleshooting guide to help resolve the issue:
1. Check Network Compatibility
- Ensure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is Enabled: Many printers, including the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31, only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. AT&T Internet Air routers often provide both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, so make sure the 2.4 GHz band is enabled on your router.
- Disable Band Steering (Optional): Some routers combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands under the same SSID (network name). Temporarily disabling this feature might help your printer connect to the 2.4 GHz band.
2. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi
- Reset Printer Network Settings:
- Turn the printer on.
- Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button for five seconds. This will reset the printer’s network settings.
- Re-add Printer via Wi-Fi Setup: Use the HP Smart app to set up the connection:
- Download and open the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.
- Make sure your device is connected to the AT&T Wi-Fi network.
- Follow the prompts in the app to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.
3. Verify Router Settings
- Check for MAC Address Filtering: Ensure that your router is not using MAC address filtering, which might block the printer. If it's enabled, add your printer's MAC address to the allowed list.
- Enable DHCP: Ensure DHCP is enabled on your router to allow automatic IP address assignment to the printer.
4. Manual IP Assignment (Optional)
If the printer is still not connecting automatically, try assigning a static IP address:
- In your router's settings, locate the DHCP IP range.
- Assign an unused IP address within this range to your printer.
5. Check Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
Ensure your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31 has the latest firmware installed. If needed, download and install the latest firmware from the HP support page.
6. Test the Connection
Once connected, print a network configuration page to ensure the printer has successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
