Hi @dug8,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer only prints when your computer is shut off, there may be an issue with the printer's communication with your computer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Restart both the printer and your computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix communication issues between devices. Turn off both the printer and your computer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.
  • Check the printer connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer. If you are using a USB cable, make sure it is securely plugged into both the printer and the computer. If you are using a wireless connection, check that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • Update printer drivers: Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can cause communication problems. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install the drivers on your computer and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Disable sleep mode: If your computer goes into sleep mode, it may interrupt the printing process. Adjust your computer's power settings to disable sleep mode or extend the sleep timer to allow for uninterrupted printing.
  • Reset the printer: Resetting the printer to its default settings can help resolve certain issues. Consult your printer's user manual or visit the HP support website for instructions on how to perform a reset.
  • Try a different USB cable or port: If you are using a USB connection, the cable or port may be faulty. Try using a different USB cable or connecting the printer to a different USB port on your computer.
  • Update firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Firmware updates can address various issues and improve compatibility. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and look for any available firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
