Deskjet 3510
Windows 7

Good evening,

My HP Deskjet 3510 is four months out of warranty.

Just recently, it cannot pull paper from the top feed evenly.  The right side seems to pull the paper quicker than the left side.  I've tried all the recommended steps through & including cleaning the rollers.

What am I missing?  This printer is too new to throw in the trash.

Thanks.

Hello @loonlagoon,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're experiencing paper feed issues with your HP Deskjet 3510 e-All-in-One Printer in that the paper is feeding in 'slanted' in your printer. This will result in potential jam issues and print quality issues. Now you indicated in your post that you have already tried all of the recommended steps to no avail.  At this point, the only additional steps would be to ensure that your printer has the latest programming Firmware Version. If so, and the issue persists than a programming reset would be needed.

First, can I please have you click here and ensure that all paper feed troubleshooting steps have been completed. If all steps have been completed and the issue persists proceed to the next step.

Next, please click here to access the latest programming version for your printer. Once the website opens, select the Download button on the top left. Allow the Download to Run. Follow any onscreen instructions to update the programming on your Deskjet. Once the Firmware Update is complete, please try to print again.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should your issue persist there is an additional reset that can be completed. I look forward to hearing from you! Smiley Happy

Hello @gustafer,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are also experiencing paper feed issues with your HP Deskjet 3510 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today with resolving the 'out of paper' error message that you're receiving.

To start, can I please have you click here. When the Out of Paper troubleshooting steps open, please run through the solutions provided to resolve this paper feed issue that you're experiencing. Out of Paper messages can be caused by the type of paper that  you're using, a roller issue inside the printer, or debris inside your printer that is not allowing paper to be fed. Through the troubleshooting steps above you should be able to determine what is causing this issue on your machine and resolve that issue.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you! Smiley Happy

Thank you for the suggestions.  I retried the physical inspections and roller cleaning.

I don't think the device update completed.  HP gives a message  "HP Device Update:  Problem Found ...cannot proceed."  But none of the suggested problems seem applicable.  I press the "Start Again" button but the same message appears.

I get the feeling that there's a physical problem around one of the rollers that's supposed to pull in the paper.

This printer isn't very expensive.  But it is only four months past warranty.  Can you suggest something else?

Hey @loonlagoon,

Thanks for getting back to me regarding the paper feed issue you're experiencing with your HP Deskjet 3510 e-All-in-One Printer. I'm sorry to hear that the steps I provided failed to resolve your issue.

Because the Firmware Update is failing your issue may be due to a programming corruption your printer. This leaves us with one final step:  a Semi-Full Programming Reset.

I am going to send you a Private Message with the instructions on how to perform the programming reset. Please refer to your Private Message for further instruction. Also, please post the result of the reset in this thread and not in the Private Message.

Good luck! 🙂

Thank you for the instructions.

Everything went smoothly until the printer tried to print the alignment page.  The paper didn't feed evenly and it jammed.

(Same problem, I assume.)

Good evening.

I spoke with HP technical support through the telephone you provided.  We repeated the steps that you'd already suggested.  The gentlemen on the phone were polite and patient.

Ultimately, though, they were unable to resolve my problem.

The support person suggested my printer had a faulter sensor on the paper feed mechanism.

He offered to sell me a different deskjet model (2540) at a lower price.  His manager lowered the price a little more.  It was tempting.  But I didn't want to spend around $50 on a refurbished HP Deskjet 2540.

I am not angry or annoyed with the HP service.  The printer, however, disappoints me.  Though I bought a student-level printer I hoped it would last more than 16 months.

It's time to examine other brands and try my luck with a competitor's printer.

Please mark "NOT SOLVED" but you may mark the customer service as "positive."

I know this was a year ago so might not be helpful to the original person who asked but I had the same exact issue. I used thick card stock full sheet paper and ran the clean smears under the tools settings the paper got jammed in the process but instead of pulling it out from the top, I kept pushing the paper manually from the top into the input side and I wiggled it out from the bottom output tray. It took some work to do it, but when I yanked the paper through the bottom a little clump of paper balled up came out with it! Almost like someone was throwing balls of paper out of bordom and one got stuck down in there. After the little ball of paper came out printer worked good as new. Something so simple (for mine, anyway) go figure.
