I am also having this issue.

Freaking drives me crazy that the tech support people try to treat it as if they never heard of the problem before.

I've also done everything here.

I can occasionally get a document out of ths horrid device, and I't's probably my 3rd HP printer. I don't think I can justify another.

Try this -  I suspect you're printer is connected by a wifi router.

The only way I've found to remedy

is to disconnect the  printer plug to the outlet.

Then disconnect the wifi device and cable plug to

the outlet and wait one minute and plug it back in.

Now reconnect the printer plug.

Me thinks it has do with blip / interruption in the router

signal.

Let me know if this works for you as well.

Hi, I was having the same issue with my printer. I had tried everything I could think of and finally gave up. I was about to contact HP for a replacement when I decided to try one more thing:

- I unplugged my printer from the wall and plugged it back in.

- Once it was on and before it started "checking printer" (that's when mine would freeze and give me the error message) I pressed the power button and it shut down normally.

- I turned it back on and let it go to the "checking printer" screen to see if it would freeze and give me the error message again...it did.

- I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in again. Then i pressed the power button to shut it down before it froze again.

- When I turned it on this time it did not freeze up when it was "checking printer". Instead it popped up another error saying there was something wrong with my printer or ink and to shut it off and back on. So I turned it off and back on again and I haven't had anymore problems.

I just have to remember to shut down my printer (with the power button) when I'm not using it.

I am having the same irritating problem!  I have had the printer since last October and have to "periodically" unplug and plug back up.  The on/off switch does not respond.  It's is very inconvenient when you need something "NOW" and have to wait for reboot.  I hope someone has an answer that I can use too!!   UGH!   I have used HP products for many years but am re-thinking that trend!

I surely do wish I had seen all these posts Re:  "Turn power off" before I bought the HP officejet4620!!!!   I would have run the other way.  I can't find any help here.  I tried the "sleep cycle" and that didn't work either.  It quit 3 times during an attempted print job.  I rarely use the word "hate" but I sure don't "like" my new 4620.  It tries my patience on a regular basis!

I downloaded a suggested update I found here, didn't help.

Disgusted!

Bought a bew HP 4620 and Kabum, "Turn the power off, t"

Tried all solutions with no luck. I would have a word of advice for HP. Istead of having support people, put an answering machine that says "Our IT recommeds to Reboot"  (thats all the real help i got on the phone)

and with the savings of not having to pay wages

Then use the money to make things that work.

Hi

I have had this same problem myself, for about 8 weeks (When I did the new Firmware)

TRY THIS OUT !!!!!!!

I had managed to read somewhere that if your printer is connected via a "SURGE PROTECTOR" this may cause this error message, unplug it and connect it straight to the mains...........IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........For me anyway, so give it a try.

Cheers, and good luck.

The only way I've found to remedy

is to disconnect the  printer plug to the outlet.

Place the printer in the basement.

Buy another brand

I've been having the same exact problem. The only way I'm able to print something is by clicking print before I unplug the cable because other than that, I can't even see the settings. It just tells me "Turn Power Off." is there anything that can be done to fix this? The printer isn't even 6 months old.
