Hi pogofx,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I am sorry to hear you are having the same issue, but I am happy to help!

For further assistance, I will need some additional information, if you do not mind:

  1. If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
  2. If the printer is able to make copies. Copy Text or Mixed Documents.
  3. If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
  4. If the printer prints as slow from other programs. Such as: Notepad (Windows), or TextEdit (Mac).
  5. Does the same slowness happen when connected via USB or Wireless Direct?

If you are using Windows, please try the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens!

Hope to hear from you soon! Smiley Happy

Okay, I'm still having issues with slow printing, but I have narrowed it down to wireless printing only.  Hooking the printer up directly with USB, it prints normally.  I've gone through my router settings (Asus RT-N66U) and don't see anything that would cause this issue.  I want to re-emphasize that both of my other HP wireless printers are fine.  I'll say that again, both of my other HP wireless printers have absolutely no issues and print quickly.   It's just the HP8610 that pauses for like 20 seconds at a time through the print.  One page can take a minute.  What now?

Hi pogofx,

Thank you for your response!

Are you using a Windows or Mac Operating System? What version are you using? If you do not know the Operating System you are using, please visit this website. Whatsmyos.

In the meantime, please see this post, Re: HP Officejet Pro 8610, by my colleague @Rainbow7000.

I would also recommend this post, Incoming and Outgoing Printer Ports, by @VisionAiry. You will want to make sure none of those ports are blocked by your router as that could cause the slow printing.

Please also take the following into consideration as well:

  • Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.
  • If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.
  • Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
  • Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.

Hope this information helps, and have a good day! :generic:

Okay, here ya go. I appreciate you trying to help out.

Are you using a Windows or Mac Operating System?

-  Window's 8.1

In the meantime, please see this post, Re: HP Officejet Pro 8610

-  I've tried all of those simplistic solutions quite a while ago.  Resetting the printer, updating firmware (I have the latest version), plugging directly into the wall, etc.  That post is of no help, thanks though.

I would also recommend this post, Incoming and Outgoing Printer Ports, by @VisionAiry. You will want to make sure not of those ports are blocked by your router as that could cause the slow printing.

-  No ports are blocked, period.

Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.

- The printer is right next to the router.  Nothing in the way.  I tried moving it further away (15ft) - same results.

If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.

- Reset the router like 50 times and have updated the firmware.  Once again, all of my other wireless printers are fine- that's gotta mean something.

Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission. Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.

- Nothing in the way or interfering with the transmission.  It is not a connectivity issue.  It's not dropping the signal during printing randomly.  Documents will slow down printing exactly the same way if I print the same document twice.  It is very repeatable.  Works fine if connected with usb.

Take a second to google slow wireless printing with the 8610 and you'll see a lot of the same issues that were never resloved.  There's gotta be a solution.

Thanks for the help.

Great advice so far but in some of my experiences I had to save the document in PDF format first then try to print (or vice versa) because of the language the driver thinks it's using is too complicated. Again, my advice there is not a fix but a quick work around until you get a chance to try the other suggestions. It could be that one driver from the one PC is out of date or just needs reinstalled.

I would start at the top with RnRMusicMan's post unless it's a time issue, in which case I work more off tricks of the trade that have a 60% success rate.

Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

Hi rahrahhp,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that your PDFs are printing slowly. I am happy to help!

For further assistance, I will need some additional information:

  • The Product/Model Number of your printer. Follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
  • If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
  • If the printer is connected, Wireless, Ethernet, or USB.
  • If the printer is able to make copies.
  • If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
  • If other files print just as slowly, or if it is only PDF files. As an example, if the printer can print from NotePad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac).

If you are using Windows please try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know the results!

Thank you for posting! Smiley Happy

You have to be kidding ... please read all posts on pages 1-3. Clearly none of those solutions work! Why can't you admit that the problem is in the printer software. if you can't solve the problem how can we escalate it to experts at HP ... we need a fix from HP ...not more questions from you. Don't mean to be rude ... appreciate your help but this issue needs a resolution.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.
