I created a brand new post with the same subject line and received the following in reply:

Hi rthompsonpuy,

HP is aware of the issue, and is working on a solution. It is recommended that you have your product updates set to automatic on the front panel of the printer in order to be able to receive the update when it becomes available. If you wish to discuss this with a phone support agent, please call HP's Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region.  If you live outside the USA/Canada region please click here to find the Technical Support number for your country/region.

I'm not quite certain why they haven't taken a minute to say the same thing here.  It also just occured to me that if a printer can't reach web services, how can it reach the update service, which I'm guessing is a web service.

Hi rthompsonpuy,

Thanks for your post.  I spoke with an agent on the phone and got a totally different answer.  He said it was Microsoft's fault!  He said that Internet Explorer has a glitch that MS will need to fix in order to solve the problem and suggested I download and use Chrome or Firefox as my browser instead of IE!  I almost had a stroke! They make a printer that will not work with the number one web browser in the world, and it is somehow the browser's fault!  He suggested IE was an inferior browser (eventhough it comes installed as standard software on all their computers) and that I would like the others better.

But, he was wrong about whose fault it is.  This is not MS's fault; it's my fault. This is by no means my first issue with HP.  I should have learned better by now.  They are, without doubt, the most anti-customer company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.  I made that yo yo agent a promise that I intend to keep:  I will never buy another HP product!

Sorry for venting to you.  Thanks again for your effort,

David R.

I would have to suggest that the person you spoke with either misunderstood the question or has absolutely no knowledge of the product being discussed.

This issue has absolutely nothing to do with a browser.

Any browser.

The printer has the "intelligence" (which is stretching it, I know) that allows it to initiate a connection to an HP resource on the Internet.  This HP resource is called "Web Services", and it is how the printer is able to send e-mails from scanned data or to receive e-mails containing things to be printed.  It's also how all those silly little "Apps" work (the inability to control access to those is actually a totally separate problem for me).  There is no browser involved in this process, other than to configure those services.

When you see the words "Unable to connect to Web Services", the printer is unable to reach that resource, and so far HP's only solution is to secretly reset your printer to an out of the box status.  They claim to be working on it, but have still made no mention of that on the original forum thread.  They claim that an update is forthcoming and that we should all make certain to have our printers set to automatically receive that update, but if the printer cant access the web, just how exactly is it that they expect it to find said update whenever it should become available.

This last reminds me of an ISP my company used in 2001.  When the ISP appeared to be down one day I called the 800 number to report the outage.  The recording (there was no access to anything but a recording) suggested that I go to whatever their url was in order to report any problems.  Which I could have done, if I in fact had any access to the Internet, which I didn't because they were my provider.

I often hear the claim from many people that IE is an "inferior" product.  In some ways I can understand the feeling, but I find just as many reasons to say exactly the same thing about Safari, or Chrome, or any other browser I've ever seen.  It's a lazy excuse, and as you point out, any consumer product that completly ignores the reality of what the majority of non-technical people use is just being arrogant.

They could just as easily say the problem is that you drive a Ford.

Gary, im having the same issue with my 7520. Worked a week ago, and now when I try to scan, it give me the "Cant connect to Web Services" line. Ive disconnected and reconnected my wireless router, and restarted the printer. Have checked the app for eprint and it looks good. Also tried to manually set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Nothing is working. Whats the solution that is working for everyone?

I too am having this same issue and have tried the manual settings suggested. Can you message me the solution?

HI Gary

I am recently having this issue. I don't know what caused it except a power outage.

Could you please send me the  solution  🙂

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure  "Gary" has been gone since October.  The process that (temporarily) fixes this is in at least three places in this thread, here it is again.

To do a semi-full reset.
1. Make sure the printer is on the home screen.
2. Touch the Home button, then the return/back button then followed by the cancel button/red x then the return/back button. The buttons won't be lit up, but will still respond to touch.

3. If you do step 2 right, you will see Service Menu come up on the printer's front panel select it.
4. Touch the right arrow until you see Resets Menu and touch OK.
5. Touch the right arrow until you see Semi-Full Reset and touch OK.
6. The printer will shut down.
7. Turn the printer back on and go through the setup screens.

HP warns against this procedure, although it came from them.

I'm having the same trouble using the scan to email on my HP Photosmart 7520.  It keeps telling me Server Connection Error - unable to connect to Web Services.  All my other apps and features on this printer work fine.  I have followed the forums listed fix and still receive the same message.  Can you please send me the same fix as the others?

can you send me the solution also

I can't connect to web services, why is the solution such a secret that it can only be inboxed??
