PCWizard,

I'm embarrassed to tell you that I can't even find where to do the first step!! (SORRY!!)  I have been using a Mac for about 10 yrs and when I hear the term "control panel" I think of a PC.  To get to my printer...I go to System Preferences then to my printer...I tried to follow your instructions from there but I couldn't.  If I should not be in  "System Preferences", please let me know.

The good news is I decided to try scanning from my Macbook and it worked!  So at least I can scan but pressing the scan buttom on my printer is still not working because it says  I have to enable it via my desktop Mac which that is the one that keeps asking for the user name and password.

Hi RhondaFJ,

The control panel of the printer would be the display front panel of the printer.

I have the very same issue (hp 8600 plus - mac os x 10.9.1). I cannot access the admin section because I do not know the login information. The private message is not useful. Can you please help?

I am trying to scan to email and am getting the message 'Username and password is incorrect.  Make sure both user account and password are valid.'  I have had the printer for ~1 year and never seen this.  Based on this support forum, I restored factory settings but that didn't help.  Have an Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  Please help.  Thanks!

This did not work for me. reset the network settings and when I re-enter my wireless information it was back to square one. super frustrating.

I get the same issue with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g. Is there a default username and pw? I never set one up and now that I need to get in I cannot connect.

I am trying to set up my HP8600 to print with my IPAD Air 2. The printer is on my home network. I keep getting a message to enter the printer password. Is there a link to reset the password? I have set this printer up on two other tablets, a Samsung Galaxy Pro Note and another IPAD. I did not have to enter a password to do it. Please help. Thanks
