When scanning or copying documents using the document feeder on my HP Officejet Pro 8500A, I get a vertical line on the output pages. I tried cleaning the rollers and other internal parts as recommended, but the line persists. I'm looking for alternative solutions to this problem.

Hey,

If there is static interference, or loose connections with the product, this can result in bands or lines in the copy, fax, or scan output. To resolve this issue, check the product connections and reset the product.

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  4. Wait 30 seconds.

  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.

  7. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

  8. Try to copy, fax, or scan again.

Clean the glass strip next to the scanner glass with the lint-free cloth.

  1. Try to copy, fax, or scan again.

If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

Vertical line while using feeder when copying. Copying from glass ok. Printing from internet ok.

scanner putting the vertical black line through the document when using feeder

I tried everything suggested - cleaning uplugging and resetting.....nothing helped! I still get 2 vertical lines when copying from the feeder, not the glass. HP told me there is no solution and since I am out of warranty, the best they can do is give me an upgrade for $239! This is my 3rd hp officejet pro in 2 years and I don't want to pay for a fourth! Any other ideas?

@Diane67
If you have completed the steps in the document below then unfortunately then you would have to consider replacement options.

Vertical Lines

Let me know how it goes.

whn using the document feeder (and only with the document feeder) I get one verticla black line on the copy, 2 9/16 inces from one side.  I have disconected and reconnected the printer and cleaned the glass, white strip and pick-it assembly. There are no markes on the original - this started only recently, of course after the warranty expired.

@JonnoB, If you have followed the steps provided in this document here, and the device is plugged directly into a wall outlet to ensure that the device is getting the proper amount of power, one is looking at product replacement.  One can call into HP Total Care to look into the HP Upgrade program. That is a program that can assist one with getting a reconditioned unit at a discounted price that comes with a full factory warranty.  US and Canada customers can call 800-474-6836.
