Did you need assistance with the issue reported in this thread? If so, please give details regarding it and I will see what I can do to help.

This is in response to your (BobLaredo) statement "I could not get the scanner working anyhow"
I also had scanner problems on my Photosmart C4280 usb connected to my Dell Dimension 4600i.
I use PSP-9 and PSP-10 image editing programs. (I know there are more upward versions but I am used to these)
I have learned to use FILE > Import > From Scanner or Camera to scan my images.
I have PSP-9 linking to the C4280 scanner and PSP-10 linking to my Canon MP560 scanner. I don't have to use HP software at all.
For the original problem, MSFixit worked fine as you mentioned.

@Bob_Laredo wrote:OK. I finally solved it. I came back to post to help others out. Note, this worked for XP, and the printer is working fine with no more messages. However, the scanner won't work. I never could get that working.
Go here to download Microsoft Utlity: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651/
Download it and then run it. Select automatic and the install problems choices. After it runs, it will ask you to select a program. Select Market Research. As it uninstalls the program, another window may prompt you about another HP shortcut. Ignore it, do not browse to search for it. Then it will say the shortcut no longer works. Choose to delete it.
It will then finish up after another few minutes. Reboot, and your programs will print just fine without any more error messages.
This was a trick that did it for me! All I had to do was launch the utility, click the Install button, find MarketResearch, and then tell the utility to attempt a removal. Here is a more direct link to the utility (FixIt):
