- Connect Printer to Internet or Connect printer to update HP ...
If you see messages like:
- “Please Connect Printer to HP Instant Ink”
- “Cannot print. Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status”
- “Unable to print. Your printer needs to be connected to the Internet to update its HP Instant Ink status”
- “Please connect printer to the internet”
This mean that your printer has lost connection with the Internet. When your printer is disconnected, HP Instant Ink cannot update its status and the Instant Ink cartridges will stop working.
The procedure for connecting a printer to the Internet is a little different for each printer. Try these steps:
- Turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds, and then turn the printer back on. It may automatically connect to the Internet.
- Press the Info button on your printer’s front panel to print a page with information about re-connecting.
- Go to support.hp.com, enter your printer model number, and search for a document for “printer offline” or “connectivity issues” and follow those instructions.
Once your printer is connected to the Internet, go to Instantink.com and click the link to Sign In, which is located at the top right of the page, or under the 3 horizontal lines if you are on a mobile device. On your account home page, click the circular arrow in the top right corner of the Status section. Your printer should go from red “offline” to green “online” status.

Thank You Jillsa,
I spent hours today trying to resolve this issue I was having with my printer not connecting to the internet. The HP virtual help experience was awful!!!!! I was in the HP Forum for a while, and nothing there worked for me. I came across your page and in five minutes my printer was up and running. Your instructions were short, but clear and that's very important to the
consumer/customer.

Best,

Printer connection to Internet
08-25-2019 08:55 AM
I am working with an Officejet8620 and connection to my wireless network and internet has been fine. Cable company replaced the modem yesterday (for internet connection difficulties). They did not replace the router. All other connections in the house now work fine. The printer connects to the wireless network and gets a strong signal. I can send documents to the printer to print from my phone. But the printer keeps saying that it can';t connect to the Internet (No Internet Connection). I can't check ink levels, etc. I have done all the troubleshooting suggested. I have printed the Wireless Configuration Report and there are no Attention items.
How do I get a good internet connection. Again all other devices in the house connecting to the network access internet just fine.

JillSa:
Just actually solved this myself. I have spent 2 to 4 hours between yesterday and today to no avail. I just now tried this:
"Disable Web Services"
"Re-enable Web Services"
voila..I am now connected.
Not sure why I even thought that might work...but here's to an easy answer that hopefully helps others.

When I try to print I see am message under HP Instant Ink "Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status." When I press the connect button I am told that the printer cannot connect. (if instead of pressing "connect" I press "OK" the printer does print).
Thanks, BLL

When your printer is offline you can still print to your computer for an amount of time but the Instant Ink service requires that your printer go online so it can update the status and read the data to the cloud to ensure billing is accurate and ink shipments are made on time.
So you will want to get your printer online and get your Instant Ink status updated soon.

I cannot connect to my workplace internet as the printer says it does not support the network, therefore cannot connect to instant ink to update status. This is a personal printer brought to use at a workstation within a school and use at one computer in a classroom. We use a secure network. The printer is connected to the computer through a usb cable and I will be buying cartridges as I need them, so don't actually need to use the instant ink service. Is there any way to stop hp from blocking the printer just because I can't connect to the internet with the printer?

It sounds like the configuration you have is not going to work for Instant Ink. If you have an Instant Ink subscription you should cancel it at www.instantink.com and sign into your account, go to My Account and Settings and there is a cancellation function there.
There should be no issue with continuing to purchase regular HP cartridges and print using them. However, if you are signed up for Instant Ink you will continue to get printer messages telling you to connect so you will want to cancel the service so you don't get billed, even if your using regular Hp branded cartridges.
Hope that helps.

I have another printer at home that is connected to the instant ink service, the one I'm using in work is no longer registered with instant ink. I'm getting the message that unless it is registered with instant ink soon, printing will be blocked. I can't do that because of the secure network in school - the printer doesn't support it. Will printing actually be blocked just because the printer isn't connected to the internet? Surely I can't be the only person who can't use this facility on the printer.

Kindly elaborate on the issue for better assistance.
- Which network key are you referring to?
- Are you trying to connect the printer to a wireless network?
- If you are connecting the printer to a wireless router, use the password for that router.
- If you are using wifi-direct and do not have access to a wireless router, the default password is 12345678.
Keep me posted.

Hello JillSa
I appear to have the same problem as @Jbrad721 and @LAL1984.
My Wifi is fine, my app can see the printer (and see how low the ink is!) and I can print wirelessly. But my account says my printer is not connected to the internet and that my ink levels are fine. All my other household devices are connected with no problems. And this is a new problem. Everything was fine, and now there seems to be a problem but I don’t know why.
I tried “restore network settings” and then running the Wireless Wizard again, but that hasn’t helped.
I notice that @Jbrad721 and @LAL1984 fixed their problems through:
"Disable Web Services"
"Re-enable Web Services"
However, I don’t have an option to ‘disable’ web services. For me, the option says “Remove Web Services” and when I press it, I get the message: “removing web services will cause HP Instant Ink to not work properly. Are you sure you want to continue?”
That worries me. Can I safely “remove web services” and then somehow re-enable them? Is this the same thing as ‘disabling’ them?
Please help. I need my printer and I pay the maximum monthly amount for ink, yet I am running out of ink because of this problem.
Thank you.

Disabling and removing web services is the same thing and disabling web services and leaving it disabled will cause problems with Instant Ink. But you can disable it and re-enable it and you will be find. Give those steps a try and if you have problems reply to my private message I'm sending you and I'll get you in contact with someone in UK who can help you.

I have same issue, had to do factory reset due to printer showing as offline to my devices. It’s now online but I cannot connect to ink despite several attempts. Reading other links I have seen that a rest renders the cartridges invalid is this the case? What a waste of ink if so and how do I print in the meantime?
