Windows 10 is asking for a WPS PIN?

This is happening because the printer has a feature called Wi-Fi Direct and it is on. Windows 10 can detect Wi-Fi Direct and tries to add the printer to Windows for you - automatically. The PIN is a must have for security reasons. Pretty cool if you know where the PIN is. Not so cool if you don't.

The PIN appears in the little screen on your printer. If your printer doesn't have a little screen, the printer prints out the code...but this isn't going to happen if you haven't yet installed paper and ink/toner.

So... to get past this, click Cancel and make sure paper and ink/toner are installed before messing with the stuff in Windows.

Once the printer has ink/toner, paper, finishes calibrating (some printers)... and is all ready-to-go, then go back to Windows. Search Windows for "add printer" to bring up the Printers & Scanners page. Now you can add the "Direct" printer and get the PIN from the little Window or the page that prints.

Even better... go to www.123.hp.com to download the software it recommends and follow the prompts.

anyone know where the WPS Pin is for this model printer? I have no led screen and nothing prints out

I'm no expert but I think the WPS Pin is the pin or password for your internet router which is probably shown somewhere on the of the router itself.

The WPS PIN is NOT the same pin as your router...this is a common problem. WPS is a special time-sensitive number that is generated when Windows 10 sees the Printer over the network and attempts to set up the connection. For security reasons, it needs human intervention to complete the process - otherwise robots/hackers could gain access to things they should not. The PIN for the connection comes from the printer - either in the form of a printer page or on the screen. If your printer has a little screen on its control panel - look there first. It only appears for a short time. You can always start the whole process over again by restarting the computer and going back into Windows and adding the printer.

Oh Dear God No, I got my HP 651 to successfully print using Win 10 64-bit three times using MS Word via Wi-Fi (in addition to test pages, that proves I set it up correctly). Now it doesn't see my router. (Hey look, I'm sending this through Wi-Fi, problem might not be mine, I re-re-entered the correct code to the printer and didn't change it.) I found many bar codes and 16 digit numbers, but not a WPS code it is now asking me for anywhere obvious in the screen on the product or packaging (the support pages on WPS are dated, and I was already able to print to the printer without using a WPS code). I could search 1000 years, but shouldn't have to, nor reboot every time I want to print a grocery list. Not a viable product or company (just saying that out of frustration, not spite... prove me wrong); I realize there may be some sort of war between HP/Microsoft/Apple; I am not wealthy enough to settle that. I know voicing frustration will only lead to retribution, but Hewlett and Packard would not have approved. You probably don't know those names... ok that was a bit of spite. My apologies, just tell the software people to try a little harder.

Does anyone else have the ENVY 5052 printer that could provide me with the printers WPS PIN? My touchscreen is broken on my ENVY 5052 printer. It's the only way to find the WPS PIN for my printer.

The PIN is unique temporary number for your connection session, it only lasts for a little while and you only have a few minutes to enter the number into Windows for the two devices to make a WiFi network connection. WPS PIN is not a required way to connect your printer to Windows. The PIN window comes up because Windows detected your printer and wants to connect with it. If your printer screen is broken or the printer does not print a page with PIN number, then just download the HP Smart software from HP and follow the setup procedure.

If prompted for a pin when trying to connect to WiFi, it typically means your device is trying to connect using WPS and needs the pin located on the label of your router to establish an internet connection. Sometimes the pin can be located on the settings page

When I try to connect a printer to WiFi (PC + USB<>WiFi adapter), the printer's display shows 9° then 05, then many times the same sequence (9° 05 9° 05 ...)

If this is a pin-code, what it means '9°'? What must be entered as WPS PIN-code? 9005 doesn't works.

The problem is solved.

When the text box for entering WPS PIN-code appears on PC's monitor, the display of printer (for only 2 digits or symbols) shows 9° then 05; if the paper is placed, the PIN-code (8 digits) is printed.

And in my case this PIN-code is generated by Win10 for each session. So, befor every new WiFi connection a new PIN-code must be printed and entered.

To use USB connection printer<>PC is simpler.
