Hi @MarvelousZeroJe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5255 is displaying the error code Watchdog 0x00829C98 and isn’t functioning properly. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power Reset the Printer

While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the rear.

Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it directly into a wall outlet (avoid using a surge protector or extension cord).

Turn the printer back on and check if the error clears.

Check for Hardware or Firmware Freeze

If the printer screen remains frozen, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds until it fully powers off.

Turn it back on. If it starts normally, let it initialize completely before touching any buttons.

Update the Printer Firmware (if accessible)

If the printer starts without the error, connect it to Wi-Fi → open the printer’s Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.

Let the update complete to prevent similar watchdog errors in the future.

Try a Semi-Full Reset (if the display allows)

From the printer’s home screen, tap the Back button 4 times quickly to open the Support Menu.

Go to Reset Menu > Semi-Full Reset.

This will restore factory settings but may fix the watchdog error.

Recheck Connections

Ensure the ink cartridges are seated properly and there’s no paper jam.

Disconnect any USB or fax cables while testing.

I hope this helps.
