Hi @HiDeAnna,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code 0x6100004a on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One Printer is usually associated with a hardware issue. Since you mentioned that the ink cartridge slider is frozen and won't move, this is likely the root cause of the problem. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for a couple of minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Inspect for Obstructions:
- Carefully open the printer cover and check for any obstructions in the ink cartridge area. Even a small piece of paper or debris can cause the ink cartridge slider to get stuck.
Manually Move the Cartridge Slider:
- If you can access the ink cartridge area without any obstructions, try to gently move the cartridge slider manually. Be cautious not to force it.
Clean the Cartridge Slider Path:
- Sometimes, dried ink or debris can accumulate on the slider path, causing it to get stuck. Clean the path carefully with a lint-free cloth.
Check for Damaged Cartridges:
- Make sure the ink cartridges themselves are not damaged or leaking. If they are, you may need to replace them.
Reset the Printer:
- Try performing a hard reset of the printer. To do this, turn off the printer, unplug it, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds. Release the power button, plug the printer back in, and turn it on.
Firmware Update:
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model on the HP website. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
