Three lights flashing on the printer typically indicate a paper jam or consumables error. Immediately open the rear cover to remove the jammed paper and reset the printer.

Hi @LimChuiWha

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

When three lights blink during printing and the connection drops, it usually signals a paper feed issue, cartridge fault, or a temporary communication error.

It’s understandably frustrating when scanning and copying work perfectly, but printing causes the printer to blink and disconnect. You’ve already done the right thing by observing the pattern—now let’s gently troubleshoot it.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for Blinking Lights During Print

1. Check for Paper Jam or Feed Obstruction

  • Open the rear access door and input tray.
  • Remove any jammed or partially fed paper.
  • Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reload fresh paper and ensure it’s aligned properly.

2. Inspect Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and check both cartridges.
  • Remove and reinsert them firmly.
  • If either cartridge is low or improperly seated, it may trigger blinking lights.
  • Clean the electrical contacts with a soft, dry cloth.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This clears temporary faults and resets the internal sensors.

4. Reconnect the Printer to Your Laptop

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Go to Settings > Printer Setup > Connectivity.
  • Reconnect via Wi-Fi or USB, depending on your setup.
  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer and laptop are on the same network.

5. Run the Printer Troubleshooter

6. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to: HP Software and Driver Downloads
  • Enter your printer model and install the latest firmware and drivers.
  • This helps resolve communication drops and improves stability.

If the blinking continues after these steps, try printing a test page directly from the printer’s control panel. That can help isolate whether the issue is with the printer or the laptop connection.

Let me know what you observe—I’ll guide you further if needed. You’re doing everything right by staying attentive to the printer’s signals.
