Hello ,
im the owner of a HP Deskjet 4100e all in one printer. I've had it a couple of years and this issue has been there from new and has never been resolved.
I know its a common issue with HP wireless printer as i see the same questions asked repeatedly. My Previous HP printer also exhibited the same issue.
I run windows 11 in S mode
The printer is connected wirelessly to by router and i use a variety of devices to try and print to it.
I've checked for firmware updates and the software says its up to date.
So here goes,
If the printer hasnt been used for a while (time period unknown), i then find that it appears to have partially gone asleep and cant be woken.
If i try to send print jobs to it , it simply doesnt do anything.
I know it still has a wireless connection because;
a)I can log into my router interface and see it as a connected device
b) i can address its internal server interface by entering the printers allocated IP address on my wireless laptop and see the server interface and navigate through it.
So if im still wirelessly connected to it, why doesnt it initiate print jobs?
The only way i can make it work again is to unplug the power lead and reboot it.
I would add that im signed up to HP instant ink and HP occasionally auto emails me to say the connection to the printer has been lost so again i have to power off and reboot
Thanks all

To confirm, just touching the control panel does not wake it up to a working position?

hi and thanks for the reply, the printer is in another room downstairs so i often have to go down there and cut the power and reboot it. Operating the power button doesnt seem to do it.
Ive recently changed some settings in the router as a potential fix. I've set the ip address for the printer at a level thats outside the range of the DHCP server as set in the router. I read that the router DHCP shouldnt be left to serve the printer as it could be problematic. We will see ..

Just an update,, after applying the above adjustment in the route IP and DHCP settings, the printer as indicated on my wireless laptop has retained an "idle" status for 24 hours and wakes up to print 🙂 Previously this would eventually become "offline". We shall see if this is a permanent fix.
Next i have an iphone on which the print function doesnt work. It lists this printer but hitting print produces no result, nor is there anything showing in the print queue. I think this has something to do with airprint.
