My 4130 e was fine last Wednesday. On Thursday, whilst I’m out it lost connection with no (for instant ink). I didn’t notice until 2 days later that everything that could flash on printer was flashing. I’ve managed to get it down to the i button flashing and the ink cartridges. However when i try to print it says out of paper, which it’s not and i cannot seem to get printer to connect to instant ink so i cannot do anything. The printer can print an information page but that’s it. I’ve factory reset it, reconnected wifi, tried cleaning contacts but it won’t do a darn thing. Any help appreciated

Hi @Tomsy1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP 4130e is experiencing multiple issues, particularly with Instant Ink and connectivity. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot the situation:
1. Check Wi-Fi Connection
- Network Status: Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. You can print a Network Configuration Page to check its connection status.
- Re-enter Wi-Fi Information: If necessary, go to the printer settings and re-enter your Wi-Fi credentials.
2. Reconnect to Instant Ink
- HP Smart App: Make sure you have the HP Smart app installed on your smartphone or computer.
- Open the app and sign in with your HP account.
- Select your printer and go to Instant Ink settings to see if you can reconnect or re-enroll it.
3. Check for Updates
- Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. Use the HP Smart app to check for and install any available updates.
4. Reset Printer Settings
- On the printer, navigate to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
- After resetting, reconnect to Wi-Fi and Instant Ink again.
5. Check for Paper Issues
- Even if the printer says it has paper, check for:
- Paper Jams: Look inside the printer for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Paper Size: Make sure the correct paper size is selected in the printer settings.
- Tray Alignment: Ensure the paper tray is loaded correctly and aligned.
6. Ink Cartridge Issues
- Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for damage or leaks. Clean the contacts gently with a lint-free cloth and reseat them securely.
7. Factory Reset (if needed)
- If you haven’t already, perform a factory reset on the printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on while holding down the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons for about 10 seconds.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your help Rachel but I have spent many hours, too many hours, factory resetting printer, reconnecting printer to both Wi fi and hp instant ink and I have been able to use the printer briefly each time. It is never totally happy and still says no paper despite it printing and having paper in. I tried cleaning the feed rollers but in the 4130e it is very difficult unless you are going to dismantle the printer (unless I’ve missed something). It now says there appears to be an issue with an ink cartridge despite saying they are full and using them to print. As soon as I successfully sync the printer I get an email telling me there is a problem. For a little while there are no flashing lights but they always return within an hour and I have to go through the whole rigmarole again. It truly shouldn’t be this difficult when it’s working fine one minute and then goes so wrong. I’m not sure what more I can do and I would imagine it will be more costly to repair it than buy a new one.
I’ve done every single thing suggested and wasted hours of my day to little avail. Yes I’ve managed to print what I needed but I cannot go through that whole time consuming procedure for the ability to print for a few minutes. What more can I do? 🤷♀️
So last bit. 9.22pm synced, wifi connected, cartridges detected, paper went through and I printed with no flashing lights. 9.22pm email saying something wrong with cartridge. 45 mins later I go back to printer, no wifi and everything flashing.
