I have a HP ENVY 4520 that will not print or copy. It just happened all of a sudden.  The scan part on the printer moves and the light comes on, but the paper comes out blank. I put in a brand new ink cartridge cause I thought maybe that was the problem even though my last ones showed it was half full and this one is a brand new one and it still won’t work. I’m at my wits end and thinking I’m gonna have to buy a new one and hoping someone might have an idea or a similar problems that they solved. Thank you

Hi @Cabingirl49

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ENVY 4520 is having trouble printing and copying, even with a new ink cartridge installed. There are several potential reasons for this issue, ranging from software or settings problems to hardware malfunctions. Let’s go through a series of troubleshooting steps that could help you identify and fix the issue:

1. Check Ink Cartridge Installation:

  • Even though you’ve installed a new cartridge, ensure that the ink cartridge is properly seated in the printer. Sometimes, cartridges may not be fully inserted, preventing the printer from using the ink.
  • Double-check that the protective tape was removed from the new cartridge, as it can block the ink flow if left on.

2. Check the Ink Levels:

  • Make sure the printer recognizes the new cartridge. You can check the ink levels through the printer's control panel or via HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant software on your computer.
  • Sometimes, a new cartridge can be faulty or not properly recognized by the printer.

3. Check for Paper Jams:

  • Even small paper jams can cause printing issues. Check the paper path carefully for any stuck paper, including the output tray and inside the printer. Remove any jammed paper carefully.
  • Sometimes, debris or small pieces of paper can be lodged inside and cause problems.

4. Perform a Hard Reset:

A hard reset can resolve minor glitches or software issues.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • This can help reset the printer’s internal processes and clear any temporary issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Rachel, thanks for quick response.  I have already done all those things I did it before I sent you the message since I saw those as possible solutions on the website. I do have to say I was gone for about two or three months and didn’t use my printer so when I came home, it didn’t wanna print.  It’s that I had plenty of ink, but I thought maybe because it had been sitting the ink was dried out so I went ahead and put a brand new cartridge in. It does recognize it as a genuine HP cartridge and it shows that it’s full. The previous one was only about half full.  The other thing I did was I cleaned the heads as recommended with a soft lint, free cloth and distilled water, I have done that twice already and it still hasn’t solve the problem.  I know it’s not a paper jam because the paper comes out. There’s just no printing on it and the printer cartridge moves and the light comes on as it’s moving so I know that all that is working. I have also uninstalled the software as well as the drivers and went to the website and loaded down the latest versions. I’m completely stumped. The printer wasn’t very expensive so I’m looking at maybe just going and buying a new one since I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to fix it.  I do appreciate all your help and if you have any other suggestions, let me know. Otherwise I’ll probably go to the store tomorrow and buy a new one. Have an amazing day!
