Hello,

I've had this printer a little over a year but it no longer prints pages in the correct order. In the first few months I had it, it printed in the normal order automically. I can't recall when that changed.

This also happens when I have "Normal" Page Order selected in my printer settings (for example, printing from Microsoft Word). I must add, printing from Adobe Reader/Acrobat is even more complicated since it has its own print settings, which excludes options for printing in a specific order – so I have to go to the system's print settings box, which just like with Word, doesn't work even if I choose "Normal" Page Order! (Nor does it work with "Automatic.")

Upon reflection, it really seems the printer drive has somehow been set up to only ever print files starting from the last page ... which in reality would be a rare necessity.

By the way, this problem also makes duplexing impossible, because it will print two-sided but in the wrong order, so pagination is incorrect.

Has anyone figured out a workaround that works every time?

Furthermore, is HP working on fixing this issue (I imagine I'm not the only person who has experienced it...)??

Note: I typically print from Microsoft Word for Mac (Version 16.12) and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (Version 2018.011.20038). I'm on a Mac Mini (late 2014) using macOS High Sierra. Thanks!

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, your printer print in wrong order,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software issue?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Remove multiple printers from the printer list

Check for multiple devices in the Printers list, and then remove any extra entries other than one in idle status.

  1. Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.

  2. Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices.

Figure: Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of a printer in the list

  3. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.

  4. Try printing again.

Delete the existing print queue and add the printer

Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.

  1. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button  to delete it.

  3. Click the Add button .

  4. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

NOTE: If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.

  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select AirPrint.

  7. Then adjust the page order and try to print.

Let me know how this goes,

For I shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again,

Have a great day 🙂

Cheers 🙂

Hello!

That worked, thank you very much.

Here's what I did:

  • Reviewing Systems & Preferences, I only had the one 4650 printer plus a 4650 fax in my Printers list.
  • I removed both (using the minus symbol) and then added the 4650 again (plus symbol).
  • Then I printed a document - without making any changes the Default settings - and it came out in the correct order.

I can't answer your first question; the incorrect page order first happened a few months ago but I don't recall exactly when the printer started messing up the order.

I hope this lasts. I'm 95% certain that since the printer problem began, I've removed the printer and added it again, it worked for a while, and then the problem returned sometime later.

Thanks!

Laura
