there are no options anywhere to set this to 'color'. printing preferences doesn't mention color. i uninstalled everything and reinstalled this

which apparently hasn't been updated in 18 months.

please point me in the direction of a driver that will let me print in color on windows 10, thanks.

@CurtMcgirt

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.

I reviewed the case regarding issues with the printer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Once done, follow this link and install  the full feature driver software.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 😉

In Windows, search for and open Programs and features (it's windows 10, you can't search for programs and features, you have to dig to find the control panel.)

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall DONE

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers (it's windows 10, you can't search for devices and printers)

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device' (it's not there)

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom (it's not there)

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Once done, follow this link and install  the full feature driver software. (this is the exact same link i put in my original post)

your suggested steps did not fix the issue.

kidding. i am working with support through private messages, but i thought i'd add this in case anybody else finds this thread. but i'm not doing a system restore.

i have an hp laptop and a microsoft surface 3. both are running the latest slow ring Windows 10 1809 Insider build.

the laptop is the one that can't print in color, and is the one where i've installed the official 'OJ4650_Full_WebPack_1122.exe' driver from hp.com. the website lists the date of that exe as april 2017. the surface, i believe, has a generic microsoft driver, and it still prints in color.

on the laptop, the driver version listed in device manager is 20.79.1.6594, with a date of 2/10/2017.

on the Surface tablet, which prints in color, the driver version listed in device manager is 17.59.0.4938, with a date of 8/31/2015.

so this 2015 driver works. i just need to figure out a way to get it onto the laptop, while still having all the other software included in OJ4650_Full_WebPack_1122.exe installed.

HP Recommended

well that didn't work. i copied the driver folder from c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository (hpygid17.inf_amd64_744fd44bb051f9ce) from the surface to the laptop, and updated the driver on the laptop using "have disk" pointed at that folder. the printer driver now appears in device manager as v17.59.0.4938 on the laptop, just like it does on the surface, but the laptop still can't print color.

HP Recommended

remember how i said my microsoft surface was able to print in color? that was true, but guess what? when it prints 5x7 or 8x10 photos, it actually prints them 1/8 wider and 1/8 taller than 5x7 and 8x10. this is utterly ridiculous.

@aeding

thanks for the reply,

Could you please help me with the operating system of the computer?

Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-4650-all-in-one-printer-series/5447930/document/c0...

Restart the printer.
