Can you better define "does not work"?
If no engine test page printed (there was paper loaded in tray 2 I assume) then the next two problem components are the DC controller and the power supply.

Most common causes of 49 errors.
1. Corrupted print job. Flush the print queue, restart the printer and see what happens. If error comes back go to 22
2. disconnect any network or usb cables and restart the printer. If it comes to ready and you can print reports from the control panel then you issue is very likely something with your computer systems. If the device still shows a 49 error proceed to step 3
3. Enter the pre-boot menu by restarting the printer and when the HP logo appears on the screen, wait for a black line to appear underneath and then touch the logo immediately. This should open a blue background menu. navigate to Administration and then go to partial clean and press ok. Nothing will appear to happen but then use the back arrow until screen reads continue and then press OK. Device will restart and reinstall fresh copy of the firmware. You will LOSE all existing settings doing this but sometimes this is required to solve the problem. If after all of this you still have a 49 error then it is possible that you have a bad formatter or possibly a failing harddrive. Test the harddrive by going back into the preboot menu and finding the diagnostics menu and run all tests. You will get a fail on the Emmc as this printer does not have one, but if you get a fail on the harddisk you will need to replace it with a new SATA SED drive. (SSD drives are not supported). If the drive passes diagnostics then power off the printer, remove the formatter (board the network cable plugs into and start the machine. The screen will be blank but you should hear the mechanism initialize. On the back of the printer there is an engine test button. press it and you should get a page of vertical lines.
If the page prints there is a definite problem with the formatter. You can try removing any accessories like fax cards to see if the printer will start but if removing it does not help, source a replacement formatter.
