First of all, my MacOS is Sequoia 15.3 (the latest as of this message). That was not available on the drop down menu above, so I selected the most recent available.
I am having a problem printing a specific pdf file. At first I thought it was a general problem, so I followed the steps listed at the this URL: https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_1797278-1746685-16
I did discover my firmware was out of date, so I updated my firmware to 20240904, but that did not fix the problem.
I finally discovered that it was a specific pdf file that was causing the issue. Other pdf files print successfully. I tried deleting the printer on my computer and adding it back. I tried downloading a new pdf file, in case the one I was using was corrupt. None of this worked.
Any ideas??

@Louis761, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding 49 Error, Turn off then on!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like you've already done a lot of troubleshooting! Since the issue is with a specific PDF file, here are a few more things to try:
Print as Image
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader (if not already using it).
- Go to File > Print and click Advanced.
- Check the box Print as Image, then try printing.
Check for Embedded Fonts or Corruption
- Open the PDF in Preview or Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- If using Adobe Acrobat, go to File > Properties > Fonts. If you see a missing or corrupted font, that could be the issue.
- Try saving the file as a new PDF (File > Print > Save as PDF).
Convert the PDF to Another Format
- Convert the PDF to a different format, such as JPEG or DOCX, and try printing.
- You can use online converters or Preview (Export as JPEG).
Print from a Different App
- Try opening the PDF in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or another PDF viewer, and print from there.
Use Another Computer or Printer
- If possible, try printing the PDF from a different computer or to a different printer to check if the issue persists.
Check HP Print Driver and Settings
- If you're using AirPrint, try installing HP’s full-feature driver from their official website.
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and ensure it’s using the correct driver.
Let me know if any of these work or if the issue persists! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
