My printer (that is a few years old) started giving a "49 service error" every time it starts up, so it is constantly rebooting and coming up with the same error message.  I have tried all posted ideas to get it fixed: rebooting my modem, starting with the modem disconnected, NVRAM/permanent storage init resetting, etc.  None of these have made any difference to get past the same error message.  What else can I do to get it working again?  Is there another way of doing a factory reset to get it back to the base state?

The first thing you need to do is try this,

Unplug all cables from your printer including power and wait one minute. Then power on the printer with no cables attached. If you are using wireless networking, temporarily disable wireless so that the printer is starting in isolated mode. If it comes to ready then chances are the printer is ok and the problem rests with a print job that is corrupted.

On your PC, you need to purge your print spooler by following the instructions here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/cant-delete-print-queue-in-windows-10/c01abbe3...

After clearing the spooler, reconnect your printer and see if it now works. Out of date firmware can also contribute to this issue but I caution that if you are using 3rd party cartridges a firmware update might stop your currently working cartridges.

Thank you, but I have tried all of that and the printer never comes up ready.  It always tries to initialize, then goes to the 49 service error message and gets into a reboot cycle with that error.  I think the issue is something with the printer itself, but I cannot figure out how to do a complete reset of the printer.
