Hi. I'm continually receiving a 59.CO error when trying to print. Any thoughts?

Hi @RWsNJPrinter

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The 59.CO error typically indicates a problem with the printer’s internal motor or toner cartridge drive system. It often appears on HP LaserJet models and signals a fuser motor startup failure or toner carousel jam.

Let’s walk through steps to help resolve it:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

This clears temporary faults.

  • Turn off the printer completely.
  • Unplug it from the wall and wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power on.

If the error persists, continue below.

2. Remove and Reinsert Toner Cartridges

A misaligned or jammed cartridge can trigger this error.

  • Open the toner access door.
  • Carefully remove all toner cartridges.
  • Inspect for any debris or misalignment.
  • Reinsert each cartridge firmly and evenly.
  • Close the door and restart the printer.

3. Check for Obstructions in the Toner Drive Assembly

If your printer uses a rotating toner carousel (common in color LaserJets):

  • Open the access panel and gently rotate the carousel manually (if accessible).
  • Look for any stuck gears or broken plastic tabs.
  • Do not force movement—if resistance is high, stop and proceed to the next step.

4. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can misreport motor errors.

  • Visit: HP Software and Driver Downloads
  • Enter your printer model and download the latest Firmware Update Utility.
  • Connect the printer via USB and run the update.

Let me know your exact printer model and whether it’s a color or monochrome LaserJet, and I’ll tailor the steps further.

You’re doing the right thing by catching this early—this kind of error can often be resolved with careful inspection and reset.
