Trying to print 6x4 photos using HP Smart app but get either a partial print or nothing at all. The printer makes all the right noises as if printing but generally just get black lines on the back of the photo paper. Have tried via my android mobile and laptop with similar results. Prints A4 pages absolutely fine, run diagnostics, all fine. Have uninstalled everything and reinstalled but still the same problem. Have wasted nearly 25 sheets of photo paper already - not impressed and don't want to buy a new printer or pay for a service to print for me. Any help appreciated

Welcome to the HP Community.
Product introduced 2013-2014
The printer has perhaps been in service for a long time.
Note that the maintenance steps mentioned later in this message might not be sufficient if the rollers are too worn to benefit from cleaning.
Note, too, that although mentioned, purchasing ink for a printer of this age - especially f it doesn't help - is a personal decision. Ink is expensive - decide what steps are useful in your situation.

What the printer can do:
Printer Specifications for HP ENVY 5530, DeskJet 4510 Printers
Paper Handling
Photo paper | Up to 280 g/m² (75 lb bond) | Up to 30 sheets |
HP paper is best, of course.
HP printers are also tested with other high-grade paper brands - common practice, I think, by all printer manufacturers.
Not all print surfaces are ideal - for example, a different brand of photo paper with a "semi-gloss" surface might not produce the same results as the widely used very and compatible paper "HP Advanced Glossy Photo Paper" (250 gsm).
Assuming the paper is usable (compatible), and in good condition (not too damp, not too dry, not curled, for example),
Assuming the paper settings in the application / software are correct for the paper size & type,
Assuming the printer is aware of the paper size & type loaded in the tray,
The printer might be in need of a good cleaning, including the rollers inside the printer.
An 'Out of Paper' error displays, printer does not pick paper
Steps 1 & 2
After the cleaning, re-run all the diagnostics and quality checks.
Color or Black Ink Not Printing
Need to change ink? Might be worth trying if you have extra cartridges...

What else?
1. Re-Check that the paper is suited to the operation (size / type / weight / condition)
2. Make sure the printer is actually aware of the paper size & type loaded in the tray (Tray and Paper Management)
3. Re-check the settings - these are not suddenly different from those you've always used to print photos - that said, a single entry in the wrong place can change what comes out on the paper.
