HP ENVY Photo 6234

Hi, I bought this lovely looking printer from Currys PC World with the promise of £30 cashback and a 7 month free trial of Instant Ink.  https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/printers-scanners-and-ink/printers/hp-envy-phot...

Almost immediately afterwards I had to go into hospital for an operation so it's been a couple of weeks since the purchase but I kept all the documentation, leaflets, receipts etc from inside the printer box and from the transaction safely.  It's been a little time since my purchase so I thought I'd best try and get on with the cashback/free trial quickly.

Once I started to try and get the cashback, it turns out that it is dependent on having signed up for Instant Ink.  No problem, I'm intending on signing up for the 7 month free trial.  I can't find any good information on how to sign up for the free trial.  My printer has a sticker on it advertising the free trial but no instructions on how to get it.  I'm worried that if I accidentally get too far into the process of signing up for Instant Ink I'm going to get charged for it.  If I then cancel it because I'm getting charged for it I won't get my cashback.  I've been back to Curry's PC World and they don't seem to be able to help, suggesting that I might need to be on the same network as the printer and on a PC instead of going over the process on my phone but I think that was just because accessing the various forms to try and get this resolved on my phone in the store had already taken 20 minutes of the assistant's time and it was starting to feel awkward that they couldn't resolve it for me and were trying to make excuses.  The Instant Ink signup pages don't seem to offer any guidance, I've googled the problem and the only thing I can find is answers on this forum with PMed solutions.  It's a bit frustrating to not have any clear direction and that the process is sufficiently obscure that HP's partners in selling this deal, Curry's PC World were unable themselves to help me redeem it.

Can you help me get set up and signed up for my 7 month Instant Ink free trial please?

Hey there! @gianthair, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you would like to know how to activate the 7 months free instant ink trial to your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you registered for instant ink services?

Please check the contents of your printer box for an enrollment code relating to your trial.

Your printer should have come with either an enrollment key or a claim code. You should be able to add any promo code during the last phase of the enrollment.

If you have the printer enrolled and if the 7-month trial was not applied, send me a screenshot of the trial in a private message with the details below.

So, I can look into your account and get the trial applied.

Please share few details in a private message, so I can check the account details and apply the promo code for you.

Printer Model Name

Serial Number of the printer

Instant ink Email Address

Instant Ink Account Number

Shipping address

Hi!  Thanks for your help so far...

With regard to your questions:

Did you make any changes to your printer?

- No I haven't.

Have you registered for instant ink services?

- Not yet.  Signing up using a 7 month free trial doesn't appear to be an option on the signup pages that I've found.

Please check the contents of your printer box for an enrollment code relating to your trial.

- There was definitely no enrollment code in the printer box.  I have all the documentation from inside of it kept carefully together with the receipt and it's not amongst that.

Your printer should have come with either an enrollment key or a claim code. You should be able to add any promo code during the last phase of the enrollment.

- As above, there was definitely no enrollment key or claim code in the printer box.

If you have the printer enrolled and if the 7-month trial was not applied, send me a screenshot of the trial in a private message with the details below.

- I have not yet enrolled the printer because I don't want to get into a situation where I'm locked into being charged instead of getting the free trial.

Where can we go from here?  I want to get started on my instant ink free trial ASAP and I could do with the cash back which I can only get once enrolled.  Thanks again for the help so far.

@gianthair,

It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.

I see you have a concern with the HP Instant ink program. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you aware that you are suppose to go ahead and enroll the printer for Instant Ink within 7 days of purchasing the printer.

If it's above 7 days you may not be able to avail the free trial.

could you also help me with the screen shot, from where you got the information about the free trial..As this will help me in further assisting you.

In the meantime, I would suggest here is to follow the steps below and complete the enrollment

Some of our Instant Ink Printers come with Trial Promotions.
To Activate this, Follow the steps below. You don't need a promo code.

1.       Go to 123.hp.com, type your printer model, click Begin, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest full feature software.

2.       Accept the prompts to connect your printer and turn on Web Services. Web Services allows your printer to communicate securely over the Internet with HP Instant Ink.

After the printer software installation completes, an option to continue online or an Activate window to enroll in Instant Ink should display.

If the activate screen displays, click Yes, activate, and then continue to the next step.

If the activate screen does not display or you encounter an issue, go to Enrolling in HP Instant Ink and follow the steps to enroll the printer.

Once this is done, the trial months will be added to the customer account automatically.

Once you have enrolled your printer and still having issues activating the free trial, I would suggest you help us with the account information and we'll try from our end to help you. Since the instant ink account details are confidential, please send me the required information via private message.

I am once again sending you a private message with the information required. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Hi Jeet!  Thanks for getting in touch.  Re what you've said please see my answers below:

I see you have a concern with the HP Instant ink program. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this issue.

- Thank you very much

Are you aware that you are suppose to go ahead and enroll the printer for Instant Ink within 7 days of purchasing the printer.

If it's above 7 days you may not be able to avail the free trial.

- No, at no point was this made clear to me

could you also help me with the screen shot, from where you got the information about the free trial..As this will help me in further assisting you.

In the meantime, I would suggest here is to follow the steps below and complete the enrollment

- OK, will do but I notice that these steps imply signing up to Instant ink and until I've completed my trial I have no intention of paying for this.  I do not want to sign up to pay for this and in following the steps given I am not intending to sign up to pay for the service until 7 months trial period have expired.  If I end up being charged for Instant Ink and end up having to pay for Instant Ink in order to claim the cashback I was offered on buying the printer I will just return the printer and ask for my money back.
