Wireless printing used to work with the old wireless access point from my isp
Got a new bt whole home mesh wifi system and the printer connects with a good signal but it can't be found by my ipad
Does anyone know of settings that might need to be changed/tested?

A warm welcome to HP Community!
Is iPad the only device that is not able to detect the printer?
Do you have a guest network enabled on your WiFi router?
Do you have 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks enabled on your WiFi router?
Let me know!

On an android phone i can see it when searching for printers - when printing it says "ths printer isn't available right now"
On windows 10 the standard add printer button sees the printer and adds it - but when printing it is reported offline
The embedded web server on the printer either half loads or times out
The printer is connected to a 2.4GHz network - the network is a set of 3 mesh wifi access points that provide both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz networks with the same name. One of the access points is ethernet connected to the modem, the other two wirelessly connect with a good connection reported all round (between access points and to our devices internet access is good). It doesn't make a difference if all devices are connected to a single access point.
We previously used powerline ethernet adaptors with built in wireless access points - in order to use airprint we would have to connect to the same ap as the printer, though windows and android devices didn't need to.
Hope this is useful information

I believe the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks needs to have diffrent SSID(Network name), pleases change the SSID and then connect the printer to 2.4GHz network. Once the printer is connected to 2.4GHz network. Use the steps available here to update the printer firmware and check if the network connected devices is able to detect the printer.

Thank you for your reply - I was afraid splitting the networks would be a suggestion, don't see this as an option on the access point's settings page so I have posted on the manufacturer's website for help.
I can still switch on my old WiFi and get the printer firmware updated/use web services.
Do you know if I manage to split the bands, will devices have to connect specifically to the same access point and on the same band as the printer? In other words, does airprint work across a mesh WiFi system with devices connected to different access points and on different bands?
