Hi @BILL9887,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 7640 printer that's stuck and showing "Printing Canceled" or "Replace Cartridge" messages, try the following troubleshooting steps to see if it resolves the issue:
Power Cycle:
- Disconnect the printer's power cord while it's still on.
- Unplug it from the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back into the wall outlet (avoid using a power strip) and reconnect the printer's power cord.
- Press the power button to turn the printer back on if it doesn't power on automatically.
Reset the Cartridges:
- Open the cartridge access door and remove both cartridges.
- Check for any plastic packaging, tape, or dust on the cartridges, and gently clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the cartridges securely, close the door, and wait for the printer to recognize them.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Since your printer is connected to macOS Monterey, check if there is a firmware update available for your printer via HP's support site.
- Download and install any updates for both the printer firmware and the printer driver on your Mac.
Run the Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Although HP Print and Scan Doctor is more common for Windows, try running HP's Easy Start for macOS from HP’s support site, as this can help resolve issues specific to cartridge recognition and printing errors on macOS.
Reset the Printing System (macOS):
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list, and choose Reset Printing System....
- Add the HP ENVY 7640 back by clicking the + button and selecting it.
Reinstall the HP Software: Software and Drivers for HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer series
- Remove the existing HP drivers and software from your Mac.
- Download the latest driver and software for the HP ENVY 7640 from HP’s website compatible with macOS 12.0 Monterey.
Refer to this document: HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer series User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
