Printer is HP 7800 ENVY. It IS connected to the network, we can print from wireless devices. My home computer is Wired directly into the router. I can Ping the device ok from my computer, In fact the FAX drivers are there and the computer "sees" the fax.
But, no matter how many times I "reinstall a new device", "reconfigure network printer", it goes through the download of the software it never "installs". When I hit "HP Envy" from the Windows Start menu, it goes right into setup mode again.
I know, I know, uninstall and reinstall......but I have a lot of time invested in THIS articular setup with many wireless devices see it and using it just fine. The Printer diagnostics for the network show it conected just fine. But, in the setup software when I manuall input the address (192.168.1.24) it says there is nothing there!

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
I have gone through your Post and would like to help
I suggest you uninstall the driver form root level and then download the full feature software
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the computer and download the Full Feature Software from Here and follow the onscreen Instructions
Keep me posted how it goes
thank you and have a great day 😊

Excellent adice, clear and consise. Unfortunately, after a long time of this
I ended up with this:
No installation!
Any ideas? I have done this twice. Aside from It "acting" netter this time, I am still stuck. It did"see" the Envy and start installing but......

It looks like you were interacting with @KrazyToad, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Barachiel & I'm at your service.
First let's try to reset the printer, then restore network defaults, then follow the push button setup method.
follow these steps to reset the printer.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Once done, lets follow the steps given below.
Restore network settings to default settings
* Press wireless option on the printer.
* Scroll down and select restore network defaults.* Restart the printer.
Once done, Use the Push Button configuration(PBC) method :
1. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for more than three seconds to start WPS push mode. The Wireless light starts blinking.
2. Press the WPS button on your router.
NOTE: The product begins a timer for approximately two minutes while a wireless connection is established.
This should make the printer communicate with the router and hence with the computer.
Keep me posted. 🙂

Thanks for keeping me posted
Pleas uninstall the printer driver from Root level once again and use the Microsoft System File Checker (SFC) utility to repair damaged or corrupt system files.
-
Close all open programs and apps running in Windows.
-
Search Windows for command, right-click command prompt from the list of search results, and then select Run as Administrator.
-
Type sfc /scannow in the command prompt, and then press Enter.
The Microsoft SFC utility attempts to find and repair any damaged or corrupt files.
-
If a Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations message displays, continue to the next step.
-
If a Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them message displays, continue with these steps.
-
If a Windows Resource Protect could not perform the requested operation or was unable to fix the corrupt files message displays, go to Use the System File Check tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
-
