I have tried unsuccessfully to speak to an agent abou this issue. I am constantly geting a 79 Servie Error. I have turned off and back on as well as unplugged, etc. There are no pending print jobs. There is no paper jam.
I spent too much on this printer to only get a couple year's use out of it. It is frustrating to not be able to call and speak to someone to help me.

Hi,
Please try temporarily connecting the printer with an Ethernet cable to your router. then restart the pritner and check if the error recovers.
If not, power off your router for a moment and restart your printer so it recovers from the error.
Next, open the Setup Menu and select Wireless Menu, select Wireless Band Frequency and select 2.4 GHz only.
Now power on the router, once the internet connection returns restart the printer and check if you may see any difference.
Please let me know the results,
Shlomi

Hi @Jkey4tina,
If Shlomi's suggestions do not work, please check these forums for multiple other threads reporting "Server Error 79" errors on the M281fdw printer due to a faulty firmware release. You'll have to download an older firmware release to fix this.

@Hausofwax: Okay, what you're dealing with is a faulty firmware update that causes the printer to die every time it tries to connect to the network.
If you're connecting the printer to the network with an ethernet cable, simply detach the cable. If you're connecting the printer to the network via Wi-Fi, a hard power cycle (unplug, wait 30 seconds, plug back in) will get the printer back to the "Ready" menu, then you have a window of about 15-30 seconds when you can click the Wi-Fi icon in the upper-right corner of the screen and disable Wi-Fi before it tries to connect. In either case, this should get you to the point where the printer is at the "Ready" menu but disconnected from the network.
From there, follow the other instructions to download the older firmware release to your PC/laptop, then transfer that to the printer using a USB cable. I hope this helps!
