I have a new 7920e. It randomly prints multiple copies although I only ever ask for one. No error messages. This is eating into my special paper and indeed my instant ink subscription. Anyone got ideas ? iOS 17, always up to date.

Hi @Data99,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue of your HP ENVY Inspire 7920e All-In-One Printer randomly printing multiple copies could be caused by several factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.
Check Print Settings:
- Ensure that the print settings on your iOS device are set to print only one copy. Sometimes, print settings can accidentally be set to multiple copies.
- Go to the print dialog box before printing and verify that the number of copies is set to 1.
Update Firmware:
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve printer performance.
- You can update the firmware from the printer’s control panel or by visiting the HP support website.
Reset Printer Settings:
- Try resetting the printer to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve unexpected behavior.
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
Check for Multiple Print Jobs:
- Ensure that there are no multiple print jobs queued. Sometimes a print job may be sent multiple times due to network issues or application glitches.
- On your iOS device, double-check the print queue to see if multiple jobs are being sent.
Reinstall Printer Drivers and Software:
- Uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers and software on your iOS device. This can help if the issue is due to a corrupted driver or software glitch.
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, find your printer, and forget the device. Then, reconnect and set it up again.
Check Network Connection:
- Make sure your printer is properly connected to the same network as your iOS device. A poor network connection can sometimes cause communication errors leading to multiple print jobs.
- Restart your router and reconnect the printer to the network.
Check Print Applications:
- If you are using a specific app to print, make sure the app is up to date. Sometimes, app updates include bug fixes for printing issues.
- Try printing from a different application to see if the problem persists.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your HP ENVY Inspire 7920e printer randomly printing multiple copies.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’d already tried all those things though.. I’ll keep an eye on it to see if I can spot a pattern. Pity the printer doesn’t have diagnostics for things like this.
I never, ever ask for more than one copy so it’s disconcerting and I can’t rely on leaving print jobs just to print.
It’s AirPrint from iOS so you can’t “forget” device.. 7920 device is connected to Wi-Fi and print is via AirPrint. All software is up to date and current. Problem didn’t occur in the HP8610 which I used regularly and which I replaced with the 7920e.
