Hi @CK1313,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you encounter an issue where a printer cartridge cannot be accessed, even after a hard reset, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the problem. Since you didn’t specify the make and model of the printer, I’ll provide some general advice that applies to many common printers:

Ensure Correct Installation: First, double-check that the cartridge is correctly installed. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it to make sure it is properly seated and locked in place.

Check for Obstructions: Look inside the printer where the cartridge sits and check for any obstructions or debris that might prevent the cartridge from being recognized or accessed. Clean any dust or debris you find.

Inspect the Cartridge: Examine the cartridge itself for any visible damage or defects. If the contacts on the cartridge appear dirty or smeared, gently clean them with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

Update Printer Firmware/Software: Sometimes, updating your printer’s firmware or drivers can resolve compatibility issues with cartridges. Check the HP website for the latest updates.

Reset the Printer: Since a hard reset hasn’t worked, you can try unplugging the printer for a couple of minutes and then plugging it back in. This can sometimes help reset the printer’s internal state and resolve the issue.

Use Genuine Cartridges: Ensure that the cartridges are genuine and compatible with your printer model. Some printers are sensitive to third-party or refilled cartridges and may not function correctly with them.

Check for Error Messages: If your printer has a display, check for any specific error codes or messages. Look up these messages in the printer’s manual or on the HP support site for specific troubleshooting related to the error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Apologies, it is an 8028.  In this case, the cartridges were stuck all the way right, unreachable under the plastic covering.  No reset attempts worked until I was able to unclick one of the cartridges, which in turn triggered the carriage back to center for adjustment.

BTW, until I realized above, HP Support via FB flamed me for the unit being 1000+ days out of warranty, suggesting my only recourse was to replace.
