MFP 586

We have an MFP that is 1 year out of warranty that was working normally up until today.

Now it loads to a screen that states 81.09.00 error and the only option is the restart which leads back to the same screen.

I think it is HP's way of forcing a new printer purchase, however, after buying 12 HP printers, we will never buy one again.

There is no way to find out how to cold reset the printer too.

Just like in the movie office space, we will have to take a baseball bat to this printer and start fresh with Brother, Epson or Xerox.

Bye Bye HP, good luck.

This error indicates an issue with the network card. Have you tried starting with no network card attached or with a different cable? The service manual states that the formatter would need to be replaced if restarting does not resolve the issue. Personally I would attempt a format of the harddisk and install fresh firmware before that.

Thanks for the response!

We tried with no cable attached.

I will open the printer and disconnect the network card and see what happens.

Thank you for the advice.  Finger crossed.....

Hello,

It seems that the network card is attached to the motherboard.

I thought maybe it was due to corrupt software on the hard drive and could not find any way to hard reset the printer.

I moved it to another ethernet port with a different ethernet cable and the same issue resulted.

89.01.00 error restart printer.

How much does a replacement motherboard cost for the 586 MFP?

Is the printer garbage now?

Part number you need is G1W39-67914

A couple listed on Ebay.

Thank you so much.  That is fantastic advice.

I did already order it from the HP parts store just to ensure it is new and will hopefully fix the issue.

I will be sure to check eBay in the future, I didn't even think about it.

Hopefully wont need to take a baseball bat to this printer yet.....

Super advice from you  = good karma, keep it up!

Just installed the new board and the same error is occurring.

There goes another $300 to HP.
