Brand new Officejet Pro 8710 replacing Officejet Pro 8600.
Installed all software (I think) and am connected to my Windows 10 PC via USB.
All functions seem to be working properly - scanning, copying, faxing and printing from PC software.
When I open the printer software, I cannot get it to do maintenance tasks such as printing a diagonostics page, status report, alignment and printhead cleaning. It says "... failed to print"
I discovered that I can do these tasks using the online EWS process, but not with the PC software.
How can I restore this functionality.
Thanks.

Hello @Ru3_Geep, Hope you are well!
Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.
I see that you are having issues while running the maintenance from HP Printer assistant software. It looks like the issue with the printer software. Try the steps below:
- Unplug the USB cable from the printer.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJ8710/OJ8710_Basicx64_1881.exe and install the printer drivers.
- Connect the USB cable only after prompted in the connection type window.
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Cheers 🙂

I did all that, with a lot of hair pulling - Getting it to install the software correctly was not as easy as it should be.
It seems that solved my problem.

Well - After I did all that, a month later I am back to the same problem.
I uninstalled and reinstalled again, but it still doesn't work.
It won't print a diagonostics page, status report, etc.
Any other ideas?
I think I found the solution.
After I did a total reinstall twice, with no resolve to my problem, I tried one more thing.
I powered off the printer, and left it off for a minue or more, and then turned it back on.
Now the status reprots, etc. will print.
I have no clue why this worked, but it did.
Might want to pass this on to others with similar problems.

Windows 10 Creator's update version. 8710 on ethernet cable to a multi-port switch connected to a netgear router.
Same problem. Your power cycling also worked for me. Turned of printer with power button, then unplugged the power cord for about 15 seconds, plugged back in, powered up, and the maintenance features worked.
As you said, these were the only functions not working. Too weird, hp.

As an aside, from the first all-in-one printers hp built they have always been finicky and strange. Worked in IT support for many years and these beasts have always been bad behaving. The software has always been the same. It works every other day.
HP's answer? Like above, re-install, re-install... your time, your money. No, HP, you fix it for a change.
