HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was having issues printing 4x6 pictures where margins were random even with all the right paper size/type settings, I read that a firmware update may be able to solve.

I looked the hp site, it showed an update for my printer (https://support.hp.com/ph-en/drivers/closure/hp-smart-tank-7600-series/2100178738) so I downloaded and started update. The printer showed 100% download then started counting down, it got to the mid 30s and stopped. The update app then said update failed and to power off printer. I still waited a bit just to be sure and power cycled the printer. Now the printer won't come up and flashes yellow with the 8AF30001  error.

I've tried the steps from https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Error-8AF30001-on-Smart-Tan... and while I get the red X and back, the printer doesn't boot into any low level BIOS. Any help to correct the now bricked and fairly new printer is appreciated.

I kind of solved my own issue. I found pressing the red X 5 times then the ? got me to the service menu, I then followed the instructions from the other link to reflash and the printer booted again, phew.

So is it possible to update firmware without this occurring?
