Hi @EdwinHunt,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet 2620 is not accepting the new Instant Ink black cartridge and is showing a flashing red light, even after cleaning the contacts, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps to try:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the black cartridge you're using is compatible with your HP DeskJet 2620. Sometimes, there can be issues with counterfeit or expired cartridges.

Re-seat the Cartridge:

  • Remove the cartridge, gently clean both the cartridge contacts and the printer's contact points with a lint-free cloth, and then re-seat the cartridge securely. Make sure it's clicked into place.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the issue persists.

Check for Obstructions or Ink Smears:

  • Inspect the inside of the printer for any obstructions or ink smears that could be interfering with the cartridge installation.

Try Another Cartridge:

  • If possible, try another Instant Ink cartridge or a regular HP cartridge to see if the issue is specific to the new one.

Printer Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues with Instant Ink cartridges.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings:

  • If the steps above don't help, you may want to reset the printer to its factory settings. This can often resolve issues with the recognition of cartridges.

To reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Cancel button (red X) and the Wireless button (Wi-Fi icon).
  • While holding these buttons, turn the printer back on.
  • Hold the buttons for 10 seconds, then release them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you, but I have done all the things you suggest and still the new Instant Ink cartridge is not recognised.

I do not have another one to try. What shall I do?
