I am the owner and sole user of my printer, model 69701E. There was an issue with the print job and when I tried to delete it in the printer icon, I was told only an administrator could do this. I'm the administrator so what is going on? Seems like too much web interaction/interference from HP. I'm on a Macbook running OS Venture 13.4.1

Hi @MonopolyHTR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One Printer, like many modern printers, comes with certain administrator settings that allow users to manage and control the printer's functionality. However, there might be some restrictions in place for personal use, especially if the printer is part of a network or connected to a business environment. Here are some common administrator restrictions you might encounter.
- Access Control: The administrator can restrict access to certain printer functions, such as scanning, faxing, or even printing in color. This can be useful in a business setting to control costs or ensure that sensitive documents are not printed without authorization.
- Password Protection: Administrators can set up passwords or PINs to restrict access to specific printer settings or functions. This prevents unauthorized users from changing critical printer configurations.
- Print Job Management: Administrators can manage print jobs in a queue, prioritize them, or delete them if necessary. This helps maintain the printer's efficiency and ensures that important documents are printed promptly.
- Network Settings: In a networked environment, administrators can restrict or control who can connect to the printer over the network. They can also configure security settings to protect the printer from unauthorized access.
- Firmware Updates: The administrator can control firmware updates, ensuring that the printer remains up to date with the latest security patches and features. This can help protect the printer from vulnerabilities.
- Usage Reports: Administrators can generate usage reports that show how the printer is being used. This information can be useful for tracking printing costs or monitoring printer performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
